The Team R.E.D. Youth Scholarship has been a success to date.   We have made offers to sponsor 12 more young people in the month of September.  I'm not sure if I shared this email from a previous recipient, so just in case, I've pasted it below.   Nice work Team R.E.D.!

Dear Team R.E.D.,

I am writing to thank you for the youth scholarship you gave to my daughter, Laurel. That was her first race and she loved it! Amazingly before this race the longest she had ever run was 2 mi, but she decided to take on the 10k. We ran together and finished in 59.35! She was one of only two 11 y/o to run the longer race.

Thank you again for your generosity,

Julie Woodrum

**Note: if you'd like to make a contribution to keep the Scholarship Fund flowing, please direct the funds to Wendy O'Leary.  She will make sure the funds go to the correct account.

Are you a Warrior?

Better yet... are you a Team R.E.D. Cowboy Warrior?   See the note from Dan below.. (thanks to Dan and Adam for working out the lodging!)

Along with the information below..I know of at least one bib that could be transferred..

Warrior Dash MN 2 is this weekend, September 8 and Team R.E.D. is in the 12:30pm wave.  There are still late spots left if you still need to register and in the past they have allowed people to run in any wave if groups get split up.  Campers:  Adam Walters is the contact if you have questions and the group camp site is at the William O’Brien State Park for both Friday night and Saturday night.  Hotel persons will be at the Hampton Inn Minneapolis St Paul North which is in Shoreview, MN (a short drive of 15-20 minutes to the Warrior Dash or the campsite) and Dan Mesenburg is the contact.

Theme for this year’s Warrior Dash is COWBOY R.E.D!  Wear anything cowboy and your Team R.E.D. shirt.  Any of the party stores are good spots to pick up some cost effective cowboy items.

We plan to meet no later than 11am at the Warrior Dash… plan time for parking, bus ride or walking to the Dash area.  Team Cowboy R.E.D. will meet in the center of the staging area as we did last year.  After we run and refuel with some refreshments we will head out to the campsite for some afternoon fun.  So we have an idea of who is a Warrior this year, drop Dan a quick email at Dan@svmrochester.comso we can build a list of our group.

Tonight's Trail!

Wow... several women of R.E.D. had a great time (and great results) at the Women Rock in the Twin Cities this weekend.  I wonder if the half naked firemen had anything to do with it?  Here's Annette with 'her guy'

Tuesday 6pm at Essex Park (located along 55th NW and West River Parkway). Meet in the parking lot at 6pm and head out for about 4 miles of trail running.
Wednesday Track is off for this week...
Thursday 6pm: Team R.E.D. hits the Bears Den in Byron once again! Come on out and join the fun... routes will be 3, 4 and 6 miles.

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Another opportunity!

Mason has pulled together a Sunday trail run at Oxbow.  Get on out to the park... lots of fun on those trails.   See the note from Jim below.

  • Meet at 1PM at the Main Picnic area at Oxbow Park (Sunday September 2, 2012). Since I can't run on Tuesday nights anymore I thought I would try to get something going on Sunday afternoons. Please feel free to invite a friend.

Quick update

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!   Several Team R.E.D. members are off to a good start in the cities with half naked fireman this weekend.. good luck with that!

Sunday 7:30am:  The Off Season Striders (OSS) will gather at Panera South for a run, and settle in for some coffee and social time.  Routes are very flexible on OSS days.

Note:  Monday Maniacs is officially taking this week off due to the Labor Day holiday.  However that doesn't mean you can't go for a run... or even swing by WildWood at 6pm to see if anyone else elected to go despite the 'day off'

Below are some pictures from Thursdays adventure of Team R.E.D.  It was a small group, but very lively!  We met a couple of new people as well, Jay and Kristie!  Hope to see them back real soon!

Sunday Aug 19th:   The Rochester Track Club is holding a Trash Pickup prior to the annual picnic at Soldiers Field.   Trash pickup begins  at 4pm this Sunday, with the picnic following at 5pm.   The track club has adopted the trail that wraps around Soldiers field, lots of miles logged on those trails by many of us! -- come take part in both the trash pickup and picnic!

Saturday Augs 25th:  Team R.E.D. is providing a happenin' water stop at Rochester Half Marathon & 5K.   We've excelled in the area of making a fun space for runners to get the refuel they need, both via gatorade/water and with a lift in spirit.   We're returning to our Med City 2011 theme of Summer of Love!  Team R.E.D. will provide music, beer and lots of support!   I pulled out a couple pictures from the original Summer of Love water stop.. check it out, as it's so much fun!  ... and please drop me an email at byron.teamred@gmail.com if you're interested and available to help.

  • Wednesday 5:30am:   Progressive run is on again, from O'Leary's at 805 1st Ave NW Byron.  This lightly attended event, always produces an energized day!  Come on out and give it a go.. we start slow, and increase tempo each mile.  It's a 7.5 mile workout. Fun fun!
  • Wednesday 5:30pm:   Track workout on Byron's newly resurfaced track.  Never tried a track workout? come on out, we warm up slow, chat about the work out and then 'go'!   However, there is a lot of room to adjust the workout to fit what you want.  (and new now, is music from the crow's nest!)
  • Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. is hosted by the Mesenburgs, at Somerby Golf Course!  One of our sponsors, ServiceMaster of Rochester is picking up a pile of pizza's and beer!  Come on out and enjoy a 3, 4 or 6 mile run... followed by the fun!

Wedding Day!

Today two great Team R.E.D. members marry! Marilee and Randy are on top of the mountain as I type this, and when they return to Minnesota... married they will be! Yes, married.. to each other! Woooooo hooooo!

Here's a quick peek at the wedding location (lifted from Marilee's facebook... man that facebook is handy!)

Be sure to check out the previous post for details on tonight's trail run! What a great weekly event this has turned out to be! Join the group for a quick run, then off to Yvonne's for a cooling off dip in the pool!

Wednesday 5:30am: Progressive run is on again! We'll start from my place 805 1st Ave NW in Byron. Kicking it off with a 10 minute mile, then each mile moving progressively faster. Come give it a shot. It's a great 7.5 mile workout with cooldown.

Monday / Tuesday

Hey! Wanted to let you know, I plan to lift a bunch of facebook pictures to capture some of the racing fun this past weekend! Several members raced in the area, including The Woman's Race, Wabasha 5K/10K & the S&*T House 5K in LaCrosse! The pictures I've seen so far, look like lots of fun, and some great results!

Additionally, another bunch of members logged some long miles with the Marathon Training crew, and many of them headed to the Crown post run for a nice breakfast and continued social time... and as proof the opportunities never end, a handful gathered this morning at Panera South for a run and coffee.  Keep your eye on the schedule.... there's almost always a chance to get connected.

  • Monday 6pm: The Maniacs are heading to Dooley's at 255 1st Ave SW in Rochester. This group typically goes anywhere from 4-6 miles then settles in for a refreshment or two. Come on out and enjoy as this group is always a happy and welcoming bunch!
  • Tuesday 6pm: The trail run team is heading to Willow Creek Reservoir at 1400 Lone Pine Drive SW in Rochester. Afterwards we'll caravan to Yvonne's for a chance to cool off in the pool! Should be lots of fun!

More to come on the rest of the week... and check back for pictures as well!

Olympics get rolling!

Team R.E.D. kicked off the Olympic Games with a great run and party at the Paradise's!   The night was complete with an Opening Ceremony pageant.. and a couple of events. (I'm hoping to score the video of the opening ceremony, it was very impressive).

The first contest of the evening consisted of a run with limited clues as to how to get from start to finish.  The Gold, Silver & Bronze for most creative route, went to Mike S, Lorelei and Tom O... with Tom C taking a distant 4th!

The 2nd contest was team volleyball.. and, well, that was dominated by one side so we may not name names  as to the winners and losers.. but.. this Thursday you can just ask, and we will tell!

Plenty to catch up on!

Earlier this week, Mason  found a great place for a trail run... the Millville route was mostly flat, with plenty of water to dodge, or run through.  If you've never joined Mason's Trail Run's you really should consider.  He takes us to such a variety of spots, it's always fun to check it out!  *Pictures were lifted from Yvonne's post on facebook.. Thanks Yvonne!

Wednesday morning a few early risers showed up for a Progressive Run.   We'd love to build participation in this workout, as it's an interesting challenge.  Please drop me an email at byron.teamred@gmail.com if you're interested but just haven't been able to make it.  It's a run where you start at a slower pace, and each mile increase the pace, until you're running very fast late in the workout.   We could consider scheduling this owrkout in Rochester, if enough people are committed to giving it a go.  If not, I'll keep it at my front door!

Olympic Theme!

It was a muggy night for Monday Maniacs but that didn't stop the fun!  Nice work earning that post run refreshement!

Update for Thursday Night:
Team R.E.D. at 6pm from the home of Diane & Mike, 355 Carlisle Lane NW in Rochester.   See the note from Diane below as to what you should be prepared for!
  • Our theme for Thursday night will be the Olympics. Team RED members can come ready to represent Team USA. They should bring their swimsuits so they can "compete" in the swimming events, water volleyball, and the waterslide. (You never know, there could be some last minute entries for London.) We will provide pulled pork sandwiches. If people want to bring a snack or dish to pass that would be great.

Good Neighbor Day Race!

Team R.E.D. was out in numbers at Byron Good Neighbor Days race. Along with all the fun together.. Team R.E.D. cleaned up on awards! (some of the results are being reworked I'll share the award winners when we have the updates.)

Additionally, Team R.E.D. sponsored 3 more young people into the race!   The way we pull it off is in a surprise fashion, as the young person steps up to register, we pull out a certificate and say Congratulations!  Your entry fee is sponsored by Team R.E.D. scholarship fund!

All in all a very fun morning with some light rain keeping it cooler.

Everybody Loves a Parade!

It was great to have a presence in the Good Neighbor Days parade. I think that's something we should consider more often in a variety of communities! We started the evening with a warmup at the O'Leary's. Good thing we warmed up, as our new 'cleaned up' cadence was a tough one to remember. For those who missed it.. here are the lyrics (it's call and response)

We're from Team RED we have fun
We come together to Walk and Run
It all goes down on Thursday night
Run. Eat. Drink. it's all alright
boom shocka locka... boom shocka locka... boom shocka locka....  Join Team RED!
boom shocka locka... boom shocka locka... boom shocka locka...  Join Team RED!

Thursday's Team R.E.D.

Thursday's Team R.E.D. was a fun one in which we looped over to the Brooklawn Park and fulfilled our Adopted Park responsibility.    I'm happy to report that park is looking good! (still can use a little more grass, but give it time!)

People took advantage of all 3 route options, with the 6 miler being a particular hilly workout.

Team R.E.D. @ Torchlight 5K

Below is a slideshow of Team R.E.D. at the Torchlight 5K.. a Minnesota Championship race.  Team R.E.D. had a preferred start due to the team circuit, and it was pretty amazing to be right at the front of a 4500 person race! See the previous post for race results

Several of these pics are lifted off facebook... thanks to Woo and anyone else I stole from!

Way to beat the Heat!

Thursday's Team R.E.D. night was a big hit!  Several of you took on the heat of the evening.. while others elected to run earlier, or even inside (not a bad choice!)   -- Yet many who ran on their own, still came out for an evening with the team, and associated post run fun!

We are doing well on our renewal drive...  If you haven't renewed yet, please do so we can get you one of those "gotta have 'em" Team R.E.D. can coolies.
  • If you joined Team R.E.D. in 2012, your membership is considered current and no renewal is due at this time.
  • If you joined Team R.E.D. in 2011 or prior to that... you are due!

Along with pictures, please see the upcoming opportunities to get together for some fitness!

Here's what's up next...
  • Saturday 7am:  Marathon training long run from the RAC.   The route is 12.2 miles and can be found at http://runningrochester.blogspot.com/    Several people are gathering early to front load some miles, if interested, arrive at 6am.
  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are planning heading back to Applebees as the prices are just that awesome!   $5 pitchers, $5 burgers, $5 wings... all of this of course, after completing a 5-6 mile run.
  • Tuesday 6pm:   The Trail Running crew hits Chester Woods for a 4-5 miler, followed by a dip in the lake if the temps still support that idea.
  • Wednesday 5:30pm:   Speed work on the track in Byron.   If you've never tried a track workout, this is a great, no pressure place to give it a whirl.  We'll start warming up at 5:30.. then chat about the workout, and get to it.   Don't worry about keeping up, everyone does what's right for themselves.
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is home hosted by Sara & Joe at 5236 Middlebrook Dr NW in Rochester.    They always do such a nice job having us swing by...  details will follow yet this weekend regarding a potential theme and what to bring...  Also, we'll have a few Bears Den gift cards to give away, as we forgot to do that at the Den!

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Bears Den Tonight!

Team R.E.D. gathers at 6pm tonight at the Bears Den in Byron!  Joe will help us beat the heat by setting up a sprinkler behind the Bears Den for cooling off post run.. whew! That'll be sweet!

Looks like many Team R.E.D. members had strong races in Stewartville.. Nice Work!  A few others took in the Jason Stevens Memorial run in Rochester... that was also a great event.

We are still in the midst of our Membership Renewal process... if you have already renewed, Thank You!  If not, no worries, there's still time.  Membership renewal is just $10 and you get one of these stylin' can coolies (I'll have them with me at the Bears Den tonight).

Catching up!

Catching up with a little slide show from Thursday's Team R.E.D. and giving you a look at the full week ahead!

I think there are some other great Thursday night pictures floating around Facebook.

Here's what ahead for the week....

Monday 5pm:   Several Team R.E.D. members have devised a plan to gather at the Green Mill, then wander over to the Movies... seems they're checking out a high quality piece of art, called Magic Mike.
Monday 6pm:  It's Monday Maniacs, and they are returning to the deal of the week.   Gather at Applebees for a run, then step inside for Free Air Conditioning, along with $5 pitchers, $5 burgers and $5 wings!
Tuesday 6pm:  The Trail crew is getting together at the Down Under in Stewartville.... they plan to run light, and easy pace, as many prepare for the Summerfest races on the 4th!  - the plan will put you on some of the same trails the stewie race covers.
Wednesday - Independce Day!  The 4th of July!  -- some great race options...

  • Stewartville Summerfest runs... with a 5 mile and 3 mile.. (you can do both as the races are an hour apart!)  Register at http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=44
  • Jason Stevens Memorial Run at Cook Park in Rochester.  Gather at 8am, with the run starting at 8:30am.  No pre-registration required.  Please bring a non-perishable food item for Channel One.
Thursday 5:30am:  Progressive run from 805 1st Ave NW in Byron -- this is a disciplined 7 mile training run, starting at a 10/min mile.... and increasing the pace by 30 seconds every mile.  Come on out.. it's fun! (really it is!) -- we did this on a Wednesday last week, but given the 4th of July, and it's associated races, I moved the workout to Thursday --
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. does it's thing from the Bears Den in Byron!  The routes should take us country bound.   Of course, we'll come on back to the Den for some social time!
