Where to Go!

Here we are... a look at this weeks group run and/or walk opportunities!

Monday (tonight) 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs are at LTS - come get a great run in! and come back for a fantastic social! - LTS offers a nice variety of refreshments including sodas!
Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail Crew is heading to Gamehaven - man I miss the race Mason & KC created out there! It's a fun place to run or hike.. join us at at the parking lot located along 45th St SE (also known as Cty Rd 101).  It's National Night out.. get out!
Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls keep the feet turning on a great out and back course along the Douglas Trail. Gather at the parking lot of the Trail Head along Valley High Drive (next to IBM).  Toss your favorite refreshment in your cooler for post run!   Did I mention?  It's National Night Out.. get out!
Wednesday 6pm:  Get your speed on at the track in Byron.  This is a great chance to work on getting faster.  Many people worry they are not fast enough for a speed workout, but the truth is, the speed workout is what gets you there!   No matter your pace, you are always within 200M of another runner.  We pump some music over the stadium sound system, and away we go.  Workout details get discussed at the start line.
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. hits the Bears Den in Byron for some walk, run and fun!  Join us for routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles...  enjoy the night - it looks like temps are cooling, making for a great night to get out, be active and enjoy!

Welcome to so many new members!

The Beer Mile was a huge success! - We raised $2750 for the Byron Lions and their Accessible Park Project!  The Free Kids Mile was super fun... 41 kids ran 1-mile along the parade route!  Lots of smiles!

We have several new members to welcome! - Corrine, who has been running with us regularly, joined during the Beer Mile and we snapped a pic, but I'm not sure who has that on their camera!- We'll get you Corrine, yes we will!  Additionally, Robert joined and we'll be sure to get his pic on here!

Many thanks to Cindy & Brian for hosting Team R.E.D. on Thursday!  It was a great turnout, wonderful weather, and along with the mileage, provided lots of laughs! Super fun night!  - the Pics below are of the always fascinating route talk! 





Sunday 7am - Off Season Striders are Charlies Pub & Eatery at the Hillcrest Shopping Center.  Always fun to connect with this Sunday morning crew!

Weekend of Fun & a New Week Ahead

Many thanks to Dan for leading another great event at the Beer Mile! So many of you were fantastic volunteers and of course, super talented participants!

  • 2017 Beer Mile was our largest turnout
  • New Women's course record:  7:42 - Brandy Brown
  • New Men's course record: 5:30 - Joachim Marjon
  • We welcomed 5 new Team R.E.D. Members! (pictures to follow in our next post)
I'll add some more pics of the Beer Mile in a future post, and at that time we should have our final tally and announce how much we were able to raise for the Byron Lions Accessible Park Project!  

The weekend of fun continued as many took part in the Saturday morning long run, while others jumped into the Women's Race in Rochester or the Good Neighbor Days race in Byron.  - and today, there's a chance to support a Kids Mile - it's a FREE 1 mile race along the parade route in Byron. - then Team R.E.D. is marching in the parade, and finally a post parade gathering at the O'Leary's home.  Details are listed below. 

Sunday, July 23rd 
  • 1:30pm: We can use volunteers at the Middle School for the Kids Mile - Race starts at 2:25pm and we'll open registration about 1:45pm. 
  • 2:25pm: Free Kids Mile along the parade route! Bring your kids, and tell your friends to bring theirs! 
  • 3pm:  Team R.E.D. is marching in the parade - we line up as the 2nd unit, just behind the fire trucks, the mayor ect... 
  • 4pm (approx): Join us at 805 1st Ave NW in Byron for a post parade social.  We're providing Tacos, Beer, Root Beer Floats & Water. - Bring the whole family! 
Here's our group run schedule for the week!

Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading to Cowboy Jacks on South Broadway.  This location is a great one to run from, and a fun place to socialize complete with peanuts in a shell! 
Tuesday 6:15pm: The Tuesday Trail crew is heading to Bill Barnacles - a great little park just south of Rochester.  Gather at the Jeffs Minnoco Station along Hwy 52 in Marion. - enjoy a couple of great loops and the parking lot party!
Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls hit Douglas Trail for a great out and back.  Meet at the trailhead along Valley High (next to IBM).  This crew is a fun group and with the course being out and back, no matter how fast or how slow, you're always near each other! 
Wednesday 6pm:  Speed work on the track in Byron.  We start the workout at 6pm, so if you need some time to warm up, try to arrive a bit earlier.  We'll discuss the workout at the track - join the fun and work on that speed! 
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. has another great Home Host! Thanks to the Brian & Cindy Morgan for inviting us to their place at 5018 51st St NW, Rochester.  There are several great places to walk or run from their neighborhood.  The theme is College Night - wear college gear, bring your favorite college beer or a side if you wish! The Morgans are providing a Taco Bar and enough beer to get things moving!

Prayers for Brock & Family

Please send your thoughts and prayers to Brock Quimby and his family as he lost his mother last week. Brock is a very family based man and he can use our support, love and prayers.  His mother, Bonnie, wanted a small, private ceremony... and that is how is shall be.

The latest!

Congrats to everyone who is getting after it at the Nut House Challenge!  Several Team R.E.D. members were out there today for the morning 10K and the evening 5K - Sunday, it's the Half Marathoners taking the stage!

Here's a look at the week ahead...

  • July 16, Sunday 7am:  Off Season Striders roll out of Newts North along Hwy 52.  Join the crew and log some morning miles!
  • July 16, Sunday 8am:  The Nut House Half Marathon at Soldiers Field! - If you're not registered, stop down and cheer on some teammates!
  • July 17, Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading to Dooley's in Downtown Rochester.  Also a fun location to explore, and of course, the post run is fun too!
  • July 18, Tuesday 6pm:  All comers meet on the track at Soldiers Field.  - Get the kids out there.. and Gwen would love to have more volunteers!  See volunteer opportunities in the section following the schedule.
  • July 18, Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail crew is hitting up the beautiful overlooks of Great River Bluff State Park.  Join the group, get some miles and enjoy the sights of this great park!
  • July 18, Tuesday 9pm: The Night Owls continue to tear up the Douglas Trail.  Gather at the parking lot of the trailhead along Valley High (next to IBM).
  • July 19, Wednesday 5:30pm: If you want to have a speed session on the Byron Track, you'll need to start early! There's an All comers meet this week, so we would need to be off the track about 6:15/6:20 timeframe.
  • July 19, Wednesday 6:30pm:  All Comers Meet on the Byron Track. - Bring your kids, nieces and nephews!
  • July 20, Thursday 7pm:  The Beer Mile!  This is the 5th Annual and we're celebrating with an 80's Theme!  Get yourself geared up for the fun!
    • If you're not sure about running the event, remember, you can volunteer, or participate in the 0.0 Beer Mile - that consists of free beer, zero miles, a 0.0 sticker for your car, and a bottle opener medal!  And to top it off.... you're still donating to the cause!  
    • Race day registration is available starting at 5:30pm at the Bears Den, but please consider pre-registering, that helps us alot! - you can register at https://raceroster.com/events/2017/12943/beer-mile-5th-annual

  • July 22, Saturday 7am: The Marathon and Half Marathon training runs from the Rochester Athletic Club. This run is supported with aid stations and wonderful volunteers!  If you need some miles, this is a great time to get them! 
  • July 22, Saturday 8am:  Byron Good Neighbor Days 5K and 2.5K at the Middle School in Byron.  Race day registration starts at 7am, but again, please consider pre-registering at https://raceroster.com/events/2017/12942/byron-good-neighbor-days-races
  • July 22, Saturday 8am:  The Rochester Track Club Women's 4 Mile Run/Walk.  You can get more information, or register by visiting http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=969
  • July 23, Sunday 2:25pm:  FREE Kids 1 Mile!  Team R.E.D. Sponsors this event, providing Free Entry for all kids! - They'll run along the parade route and receive a medal at the finish!  Bring your kids, or consider volunteering! 
  • July 23, Sunday 3pm:  Team R.E.D. is marching in the Parade for Byron Good Neighbor Days! - The more the merrier and the parade will be followed by a social in the O'Leary's back yard - Beer & Water provided - more details to come.

There's a Home Host Thursday!

E-I-E-I-E-I-Ohhhhhh..... Lorelei has graciously signed up to host Team R.E.D. this Thursday evening at 6pm. We'll get out for a great run or walk in the wide open spaces, and come back for even more fun!  Our Hosts are providing Sandwiches, Salad and snacks... - Bring Your Own Beverage and a dish to pass if you wish.  - and a lawn chair is a great idea...

You'll find us at 5951 Cty Rd 3 NW, Oronoco...   pop that in your GPS.    - For the GPS challenged, you can get there from Valley High Rd (cty rd 4) - take it until you find Cty Rd 3 and go North for approx 1 mile - they are the 2nd place on the left.  You can also find it from 65th St off Hwy 52 North.  Take 65th Street to the west, find Cty Rd 3 and go South. From that direction they are the 2nd house on the right! 

  • Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs are hitting up the wonderful patio at Whistle Binkies North - there are many routes to take from there, a  nice hill climb is followed by a great downhill!  Get your miles, and stick around for the social! 
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail crew keeps it rolling... this time with a home host from Jim & Deb! - Thanks for the invite! - They are located at 4801 Cty Rd 24 NE, Eyota MN.   
    • We'll do some miles on the private trails at Jim & Deb's. There may even be a river crossing of the North Branch of the Whitewater very near it's source. After the run we will gather in Deb's yard for social time. There probably will be a bon fire in the back yard. Bring something to grill just in case!
  • Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls are changing up the starting point. Join us at the trail head located in Douglas, and after the run, the fun moves to the Douglas Saloon and Social Club!
  • Wednesday 6pm:  It's speed night on the track in Byron.  Last week, a small but strong group ran 400M repeats with 200M recovery.  - We discuss the workout each Wednesday night.. if the plan fits for you, join in, if not, you can certainly do your own thing.  
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. hosted by the Hansons! - See details above....   woot woot!

Reggie Oeltjen Douglas Trail 11 Mile

The Rochester Track club has renamed The Douglas Trail race in Memory of Reggie Oeltjen.  Very Nice... please see details about the race, and find registration information at the following link.

Also, Reggie's daughter Natalie has great interest in finishing her fathers journey across Minnesota... This week, I'll be attending the Rochester Track Club board meeting to discuss dates that might work for Team R.E.D. and RTC to support Natalie in this effort.  I sure hope many of you can join us in a Relay fashion to help her see the journey to completion!  If you can add any miles to the cause, it'll be wonderful!  - Check back for details.

Congrats to Dana & Vegas!

Dana found herself sealing the deal! Congrats on her marriage to Vegas! Several Team R.E.D. members were able to bear witness to the wonderful event... Congrats!

Nice job on the run last night... I think I'm still sweating! Here's a look at the weekend and into next week.

  • Saturday 7am:  Marathon and Half Marathon Training is ramping up! - This week's routes from the Rochester Athletic Club are 15 for the full, and 7 for the half.  There are 3 aid stations on the 15 miler.  You can check out the route posted by Jim Li at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7098885

TC 10 Mile!

Registration for The TC 10 Mile - Shortcut to the Capitol is at critical mass!  You can get in either via the Lottery (which opens this Friday) - Or by registering by end day July 6th as a USA Track & Field Member.

USATF Minnesota Team Circuit Registration Directions
By following these directions you will be entered in the USATF Minnesota Team Circuit and receive $3 off your registration fee. The Team Circuit automatically get's you into corral #1 as well.

Registration Dates:  May 2, 2017 through Thursday, July 6.

1.               Click on the Invitation Code above to get to the registration page.
 2.               A Registration Type will appear highlighted in red:

USTAF Team Circuit  Choose this registration type and click “Continue.”

 3.      It is mandatory that you fill in your ten digit 2017 USATF number.
 4.      You will need to select your USATF MN Team Name from the dropdown menu.
 5.      Complete the registration and payment information.

The registration drawing opens at 10:00 a.m. CDT on Friday, July 7 and closes at 10:00 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 17. Runners will learn their entry status beginning Wednesday, July 19.

When you register for the drawing you may create a group and link up to ten registrants together by using the same group name. With this feature, either the entire group will be selected or the entire group will not be selected.
