You Did Good!

As an update regarding Roger... he has had some great strides in his rehab, and is no longer in the hospital.  He'll continue his work via an outpatient program, and he'll continue to get stronger.  It's not an overnight solution, but with his strength, desire and drive.. he will be back before you know it!

I've copied and pasted a message they wanted to share.

Team RED
Dear friends,
We are very thankful for our many blessings, family and friends.
A "heartfelt" thank you for all your prayers, kindness and support. Visits in the hospital, cards, snow shoveling and generous gift of Waiter Express gift card, Visa card and Scanlon House stay. WOW!!!
Love Roger & Joyce

Also, here's a late update!
  • Saturday  The marathon training run from the RAC starts at 715m... if you're interested in extra miles, you can join us at 6am... or even for you sleepy heads, 6:30am.. the first group will go out, and circle back to the RAC to see if any others want to join.. then back out and back again for the official RAC run at 7:15am.
  • Sunday:  Off Season striders is at Charlies Pub on 2nd Street (across from St Marys).  The run kicks off at 8am.. but again, if you'd like extra miles, a couple of us are meeting at 7am for a warmup run, approx 5-6 miles before the the 8am crew.  Also, if you think it's just too dang cold, come for breakfast about 9am! '
  • Sunday 12:30pm:  The snowshoe crew is out for a romp at Oxbow!   Meet at the firs bridge (2nd parking lot as you enter the park area).   Snowshoes are available for those who don't have any... drop byron.teamred@gmail.com a note if you need shoes!
If anyone knows how to eliminate the white backdrop on all my copy and pastes, I'd be grateful if you can share the answer with me!

Superstars... All Of You!

Hey!  I just want to say you are all amazing... doing great things for Roger and Joyce..  being excited for Jill & Adam as they had a baby boy... and just getting out there and doing your workouts, in this somewhat disappointing weather!

Cancel the Progressive run for tomorrow.. it's just not safe or productive under the current conditions.
**************************
Stay focused on a Thursday Night run with a party theme!   It's Retro Prom at Somerby Golf Course in Byron!  Enter through the lower level, through the gate at the pool entrance.

Even if you think you want to skip the run, come join the fun!  What's not fun about this!  Look at the guy below, you went to school with someone like him, or you actually are the guy like him!

We'll have 80's music.... our hosts are providing some amount of beer, wine and appetizers... and when the freebies are gone, open your wallet and continue to enjoy!  We also hope to scope out Active PT's new location.. come out and enjoy!

Reminder!

There is no trail run (snowshoe) tonight, and no track workout scheduled for tonight... instead, please consider heading to TerraLoco for a 5K for just 5 bucks!  The proceeds are going to Roger & Joyce!

For the record, Roger is a rockstar in recovery.. he has elected to stay inpatient for his PT and OT sessions... this will get him 2X a day, vs 1 session a day.  He's committed to getting back to full strength and I'm quite certain he's taking the right measures!

Oh..  did I mention?  Brock ponied up the beer money!   Let's have a party and toast Roger tonight!

Roger high fives a stranger... at least this person must be a stranger, as that is some crazy outfit.

Updated Plan for Snowshoers & Great News!

Due to the Windchill predicted to still be below zero tomorrow, we are delaying the special snowshoe party at the Nepstads.  We'll find a more comfortable day to hang out in a clearing with a bonfire and music!  Keep your eye on the blog to find out when we reschedule it to.

Sunday 8am: Off Season Striders start and finish at Dunn Bros North (Elton Hills Dr).
Sunday 1pm:  The snow shoe crew has postponed the outdoor party, but the chance to snowshoe remains!   We'll gather at the 1st bridge (2nd parking lot) at Oxbow Park.
Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs head out to the mean streets of downtown, starting and finishing at Beetles Bar & Grill!  Always fun with this bunch!
Tuesday 6pm:  Plan to go to TerraLoco for a 5K for just 5 bucks.. all proceeds will go to support Roger and family as he continues his recovery at St Marys.   He's doing great.. and you are all awesome for the great support and caring you're showing daily!

  • Note the regularly schedule trail run and track runs will not take place on Tuesday.  Instead, go to TerraLoco!

Wednsday 5:30pm:  The track runners are now up for speed on Wednesday this week!  Get to RCTC and turn the feet in a fast paced, fun workout!   30 seconds on... 30 seconds off.. that's been the trend, it's fast and good for your turnover!
Thursday 5:30am:  Progressive Run from the RAC.  Make sure you join the fun!  You start slowish, and speed up to fastish... 7.5 mile workout! * Be sure to keep an eye for updates on this run.. if the roads/trails aren't better by then, it may not be worth attempting from a safety perspective.  An update will follow on Wednesday.
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. get's fancy and we head to Somerby in Byron to do it.  It's Retro Prom night!  Dress the way you would (or did) when you were going to prom!  If you don't have an outfit in your closet already, there's a great costume shop in Kasson, with tons of choices.  http://www.janscostumes.com/ is located at 13 West Main Street - check or call for hours before driving out there.

Lots of Other Good News!  See Below!

If you haven't heard yet.. Adam & Jill had a successful ride to the hospital during the storm overnight Thursday/Friday... successful due to the fact Jill delivered their 2nd child!  Finn joins Esme is this wonderful family.

Here's a fun shot of the happy family.. something tells me Esme is ready to baby her little brother!

On another note, we continue to hear a lot of positive reports from people on Rogers status.. he's doing great!  Wendy and I stopped in today, and he had a room full, with Millie, Randy, his sister Mary, son John and of his wife Joyce.  He was looking very upbeat, very hip, with-it and wow!

We presented Roger & Joyce the gift from Team R.E.D. and they seemed to really enjoy it, saying "it's very generous!"   Nice work you all...

Oh.. the snow did show up!

It was a fun night at Team R.E.D. as we closed down the Den!  We did have a few others join for the D portion of the evening... Annette & Paul snowmobiled to meet us... and Marley showed up with a big old hat, wondering when he will get his Team R.E.D. shirt (he became a member at the Beer Mile, I suppose we should get him a shirt soon!)

Tom & Adam... it wasn't safe to drive, so we ran!

Not sure if Adam sees the bear behind him!

It's a little bit of a winter wonderland.

Also, a great update for Roger... he's continuing to improve, and has moved out of ICU!   He's now located in Domitilla... he had a stent placed today, and is recovering very well.   Visitors are certainly welcome!   Go Roger! Go Roger! Go Roger!

A reminder of what's coming up next is below... .

Saturday 7:15am - Marathon training long run from the RAC.  This is a great chance to run with others as you log the long miles!
Sunday 8am:  Off Season Striders will get it going at a location TBD. Typically 5-8 miles.
Sunday 1pm:  The Snowshoe Crew invites you to attend a party at the Nepstads homestead!  We'll get out for some shoeing in all the fresh snow, and then settle into a clearing for a bonfire, music and fun!   Bring along some extra clothing so you can bundle up or change after snowshoeing, we'll make sure you warm clothes make it to the bonfire (you won't have to carry them).  The address and directions are still coming.. stay tuned!
Monday 2/24  6pm:  Monday Maniacs will keep the party rolling with a 5-6 miler and some post run fun!
Tuesday 2/25 at 6pm:  Head to TerraLoco for a 5K for just $5... all proceeds will go to support Roger and family.  This is awesome that Brock and his team are doing such a thing.  More details to come as we approach the event.

  • Also awesome that the regularly scheduled group that was going to receive funds from the 2/25 run, were happy to slide out a week. Very nice.  Team R.E.D. member Erin is part of that group, Soldiers Wing SEMN - they send much needed supplies and blankets to our US soldiers who are deployed.  Great work!
Thursday 2/27 at 6pm:  Team R.E.D. heads to Somerby in Byron for a Formal Affair!  It's Retro Prom night... and you should wear what you would wear if you were going to Prom back in the day you went to prom... for some of you it will be hard to remember, but you can do it!  It will be a fun night in formal wear...

Snow? What Snow?

The Progressive run was lightly attended this morning.  If this workout is something you're interested in but you just haven't tried it yet, drop me an email at byron.teamred@gmail.com and let me know what is keeping you from coming so far?   Is it start time? Is it the day of the week?  Is it the workout itself?    Let me know what you think...

***********************

Great news regarding Roger's recovery... He's alert and able to take visitors again.  He had been wearing a neck brace that had been agitating the heck out of him, and that is now off...  the last report from Lin described him as upbeat with a good sense of humor.
--- That's excellent to hear. Go Roger. Go Roger. Go Roger.

*************************

Keep an eye on today's weather, and be safe when it comes to travel.... and if the weather permits, I look forward to seeing many of you at the Bears Den for Team RED tonight!

**************************

A new fun run is coming to Rochester.. this one is held at Gamehaven Scout Camp, and we know we always have fun there!   It's an inflatable 5K... big inflatables for big boys and girls, like us!

A special Thanks to Mike S for setting up a Team R.E.D. team for the 9am wave... to register with Team R.E.D. you'll just need to visit the following link and know the information below.  https://endurancecui.active.com/event-reg/select-race?e=6053602

Here's one note from the Insane 5K website...

Food & Beverages

(FACT - adult beverages taste better after exercising)
Running the Insane Inflatable 5K course is going to make you hungry, it’s a given. It will even probably make you crave a cold beer too. Don’t worry, we’ll have both and we’ll make sure to serve the “good stuff."

Thursday 6pm - Bears Den - a little snow may be on the way, but the runnin' and funnin' continues!
Saturday 7:15am - Marathon training long run from the RAC.  This is a great chance to run with others as you log the long miles!

  • Additionally, our friends from Active PT are setting up a new location within Somberby.. they will be joining us, all dressed up I'm sure!   We might get a sneak peak at the space they are planning to use.
Want some ideas for formal wear?  Here's a look at the one hosted by Joe and Sara!   What a fun night.. and it was HOT HOT HOT!   Turn your sound on as this slideshow is set to music...

Keep it rolling!

Things continue to build... we're working on the plan for Sundays SnowShoe.. it will be one you don't want to miss!  Details still to come.

Additionally, there will be a themed party at Somerby on Thursday the 27th. We'll get you details so you can be ready!

****************************

Today's update on Roger includes the fact he remains in ICU, but has shown some signs of growing strength.  Yet he really needs his rest.  So with that said, please consider not visiting for a day or so, to give him time to rest.   Joyce and family truly appreciate all the visits, but now that he's more aware it makes it much more difficult to rest when visitors are present.

Go Roger! Go Roger! Go Roger!

Positive signs

Just a quick update on Roger's recovery...

Yesterday they were able to stop the sedation.. and they removed the breathing tube.  So he's awake and breathing on his own. This is very good... and Joyce was all smiles about it.  While Roger is doing much better after just 48 hours, he's still quite uncomfortable and has not yet been able to speak (which is not uncommon).  As always, visitors are welcome... as are your prayers.

Several of you showed concern and volunteered to help removed snow for the family, that's awesome.. Joyce is grateful for the outpouring of help and concern.

Team R.E.D. members are planning to purchase a Waiter Express gift card for Joyce and the family... if you would like to contribute, there's a bucket that will be at Tonight's snowshoe at Oxbow (and the Bears Den afterwards).  The bucket will be available at Dooleys for Naked Wednesday, and again at the Bears Den for Thursday's Team R.E.D.

To see what's up the remainder of the week, check out the previous post.... there's a lot going on starting with a snowshoe opportunity at Oxbow Park tonight!

What a week ahead! Going to be fun!

We'll start this post with an update regarding Roger.  His family is so very thankful for all the thoughts and prayers that are coming their way.  It means more then you may imagine.. the outpouring is so strong!

Roger had some strong moments today, yet with an approach to allow his body to fully rest, aiding overall recovery, he is still sedated.  You can visit him at St Marys, and Joyce welcomes your visit... however, Roger is sedated, so please prepare yourself to realize you won't be chatting with him.

He's one of the best men I have ever met.. he's fit, he's happy and he's super nice.  Keep sending those prayers.  Many of use believe in the power of prayer, and if you don't, pray anyway.

***********************

The weather is moving the right direction and it sure seems attitudes are as well!   Roger was present at each of the events today....  many members asking, praying for a strong/quick recovery.

The Off Season Striders post run was a rockin' laugh out loud event!   Then the snowshoe crew loaded two hours of shoeing and lit up the Bears Den with laughter and fun!    Let's keep it rolling!

During snowshoe.. we found heaven on snow.. it was an incredible space to stumble upon, and following all the effort to get up there.. the reward was fantastic!  Nobody had been there before us.. and it became a great playground!

*********

Here's a look at the week ahead!

Monday 6pm:  The Maniacs are heading to Beetles Bar & Grill for a walk or run.   This location always provides a safe, dry sidewalk to scoot downtown!   Of course, there's post run / walk fun!

Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Trail crew is planning on a snowshoe hike at Oxbow after dark!  Meet at the first bridge (which is the 2nd parking lot area as you enter the park).   Post shoeing social is at the Bears Den.
Wednesday 6pm:  A new weekly run is picking up steam.  We'll call it Naked Wednesday, and who wouldn't like a Naked Wednesday!   Head to Dooley's for this run!
Thursday 5:30am:  Progressive Run from the RAC... we'll have paces for anyone who wants to join.  Just let me know how fast you want your last mile to be, and I'll walk you through a plan that will progress to the target time!
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is heading to the Bears Den in Byron. As we always do.. workout and celebrate!  Routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles available!
Saturday 7:15am: The marathon training long run heads out from the RAC.   You do not need to be a RAC member, or a team red, rtc member.. just go run!  Bring a dollar to contribute to the food/drink provided by volunteers!
Sunday 8am:  Off Season Striders will have a run.. location is TBD.   This is another great group run, get engaged with it!
Sunday 1pm:  The Snowshoe Crew has a party plan in the works.  A giant party plan that involves a great workout, and the most fun you may have ever had on snow!   Check back for details of this event!

Please send Prayers

Please send your prayers for our dear friend Roger, as he suffered a heart attack this morning during the marathon training group run.  Fortunately, other runners were there to start CPR immediately.  He's currently at St Mary's Hospital.

Please send your prayers and thoughts for Roger and his family.  We pray for a speedy, and complete recovery.

Too much fun!  A great number of people have been asking why the police were at our waterstop at Lace Up.... I think it's summed up here... (if you don't want to watch the entire song, listen from about 29 second mark to 36 seconds... it sums up why somebody in the neighborhood called the police to the 'scene').

We may have stumbled upon a new Team R.E.D. theme song!

Awesome Volunteerism Team R.E.D.!

Nice work at the Team R.E.D. water stop for Lace Up Against Breast Cancer!   I also understand Steve, family and friends worked the other water stop.. and of course, other members were all over, at registration, finish line, course marshals and actually racing in the events!    You are all fantastic!

If you have not volunteered at a race, I would encourage you to consider.... it's an amazing feeling to support all those out trying to achieve either a time based goal, distance based goal, or to run in memory of someone.. very positive environment!

In the pic below I'd like to give a special Thank You to Katie!  She is pretty new to the running community, has been following Team R.E.D. and decided, "I should volunteer!".  She was full of  great energy and carrying the Team R.E.D. enthusiasm the entire time!  I hope we see more of Katie.

The rest of you were operating at your anticipated level of greatness, which is super fantastic, we can always count on you!  Yet, with that said, you get no special thank you.

The cold weather has nothing on this group! Great crew!   Don, Katie, Meagan, Tom, Christina, Renee, Dan, Lorelei... not pictured but super helpful is Dani!
Below you'll see a couple Facebook comments regarding that water stop (and there were many comments).  The first a note from Race Director John.. (I have no idea why John thought he might have to use a get-out-of-jail card... no idea at all).

  • A big thank you to Team Red for another outstanding waterstop at LUABC. For some reason, people seem to remember your location--considering how shy and reserved you all are, I don't understand why. Oh, by-the-way, glad I didn't have use my get-out-of-jail card on O'Leary.
Debbie from the St Cloud River runners had this to say...
  • Thanks for dancing with me! It was a great boost every time I went by you guys !!
There was a lot of dancing by Team R.E.D. (survival)... and runners, having fun in the moment!

After the volunteer gig.. a handful of members braved the chill again for snowshoeing!   It's so good!

The tough ones!  Negative 20 windchill doesn't stop a snowshoe event!
************************************************

There's a lot still going on this week.. check it out!

Tuesday 5:30pm:   Get on the track for some speed!   RCTC indoor track is the spot.   Remember, if you're ever looking for an indoor workout, the track is open to the public (and free!) weekdays from 6-8am and evenings from 5-10pm.

Olympic Night !

The Olympic challenges were tough!   Somehow we didn't snap pics of the games themselves...

Snowball toss (bouncing ping pongs balls into buckets) was won by Adam!
Bobsledding (blowing through a straw to push an icecube down a sled) was won by Dave!

That brought us to the Championship round, where Dave and Adam went toe to toe in an Olympic trivia contest.  While Dave was often the quickest to answer, he was also often to name a summer Olympic event and that proved costly as Adam took home the Gold!

Todd & Brad create the Gold Medal winner!  Dave takes his spot in the silver medal spot.

Tom was crowned Fantasy Football Champion!
Getting ready... we did have a few more join the crew (running late apparently!)

The weekend plans...

Saturday 7:30am: Off Season Striders will roll out from Dunn Brothers on Elton Hills.   This will be the last of the Saturday OSS's for awhile, as the Marathon training long runs start from the RAC on Feb 15th.   (Sunday OSS will continue).
Sunday 9:30am:   Lace Up Against Breast Cancer 1/2 marathon, 5K and 2 mile walk starting at Mayo High school.  There's still time to register at TerraLoco from 11am-5pm on Saturday or Race day registration is availlable at Mayo High, from 7:30-9:15am.

  • There's also still time to volunteer at Lace Up!  Our water station is always a fun one.. come join us!   Please send Ben an email to let him know if you're planning to join us so we can plan accordingly.   Ben can be reached at brako.benjamin@gmail.com

Sunday 3pm:   Snowshoeing at Oxbow Park!  Meet at the 1st bridge for the fun... don't have snowshoes?  that's ok, we always have extras with us.
Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs is heading to Brothers Bar & Grill on Broadway in Rochester.  Park in back and step inside for the route chat.  Trails are typically good around there.. woo hooo!
Tuesday 5:30pm:   Get on the track for some speed!   RCTC indoor track is the spot.   Remember, if you're ever looking for an indoor workout, the track is open to the public (and free!) weekdays from 6-8am and evenings from 5-10pm.

  • Thursdays Theme: Ugly sweater night - fun!
  • Hosts will provide pulled pork sandwiches.
  • Please bring your favorite beverage and consider an item to share.

Also, we all have to eat!   Please support the Ultimate Breakfast at Johnny Mangos on Feb 15th!    https://www.facebook.com/UltimateBreakfastBuffet    Team R.E.D. member Steve Dawson leads this charge, and it's a great fundraiser for Camp Victory, which is a place so many young people go connect with others is a positive environment of Christianity and Fun!

If you can help as a volunteer drop Steve an email at passteve@yahoo.com

Did we mention?

There's still an opportunity to volunteer at the Lace Up Against Breast Cancer this weekend!    Our water-stop is a Tropical Theme... think warm!     We'll have music, coffee, beer and fun! (oh, and water & Gatorade for the runners).

Also, reminder to stop into the Bears Den tonight to try on and give feedback on the brooks singlets we're considering for Team R.E.D.    -- those singlets will also be at the water stop for Lace up!

Late Change & Singlet sizing!

Given it's again dangerous windchill's in the morning.. Thursdays progressive run is cancelled!  We will find some dates where we can actually get some value out of this workout, but the conditions simply do not support the workout.

Thursday Night's Team R.E.D. is still a go!   Will be much warmer by then!  Plan to stop by the Bears Den in Byron for the run or walk at 6pm.. and join us for Olympic style games to play starting about 7;15pm after our run or walk!

Ice cube bobsleedding and Olympic Trivia are two of the items on the agenda... there could be more (or not!)..

Additionally, we have some sample singlets to try on... if you want to see how the new singlets fit, come to Team R.E.D. Thursday night!  (We will have them for a little while, but likely need to place an order soon to have them ready for the race season!)

** Also..the singlets will be at the Lace Up Against Breast Cancer Water stop... so if the free coffee and beer and fun is not enough.. come to try one on!

Bill & Penny join Team R.E.D.!

Nice turnout on Superbowl Sunday!

Monday 6pm: Monday Maniacs  are heading to Beetles Bar & Grill on 2nd Street in Rochester.  Why don't you take me downtown anymore?  Well, tonight we will!
Tuesday 5:30pm:   Speed work at the RCTC indoor track.  Just a reminder to wear in one pair of shoes, and change into dry ones before getting on the track.   The speed sessions keep picking up runners, that's awesome!
Tuesday 6pm:  TerraLoco is hosting a 5K to benefit the Frozen Goose/childhood cancer research!   You don't have to be fast, go participate and help raise some money!  $5 at a time, can go a long way toward help!
Tuesday 6:15pm:  The trail crew  is snow shoeing!   Join them at   Izaak Walton Snow Shoe Hike      Here's a link showing where the park is located, plenty of parking along the wide shoulder.  https://maps.google.com/maps?q=43.997106%2C-92.536086&num=1&t=h&z=16
Thursday 5:30am:  The progressive run is now a weekly event!  This week we'll have paces available for people who want to hit a top speed of 8/min mile.... and 7:30/mile and 7/min mile and 6:30/mile.... so no matter how fast you think you can get for a max, we'll have a workout for you to challenge yourself and get there!   (check back for starting location!)
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. comes home to the Bears Den! We'll incorporate an opening ceremony theme.. think olympics!    There will be a few olympic challenges lined up for you!
