More of the week!

We had a great night at Monday Maniacs!  It included some new people in Krystina and Garett!  It's awesome to keep seeing new faces!

Monday Maniacs post run / walk at WildWood!

*************************
Tuesday's Trail Trotters (aka Triple T) caught a nice night to be on the run in Millville!  And of course, found themselves rehydrating before calling it a night!

    Spring is in the air!

It's a good feeling to see some sunshine!  Looked like a nice turnout at Team R.E.D. on Thursday... I made it late, due to track and still a nice crowd of E.D. types.   The group was fortunate enough to welcome a new face to the crew... Krystina took a loop with us, and we sure hope to see her back again!

I also know, it's on your mind... "when will we see the singlet design entries?" - the latest promise is designs will be posted, and voting will be open Sunday Night!

Congratulations to all the participants and age group winners at the Fetzer Run to End Hunger!   Turnout was a little light, but Team R.E.D. was well represented.   Nice work!  Below are a few more shots from the day...

    Braden  - 2nd Place Overall!

    Tom W.  - always a winner!
    Sarah & Ryan - teamwork!

    Laree looking great!

    Randy celebrating the downhill!

    Wendy serving team Sarah-Ryan

    Marv waving at the crowd!

Craig getting one last sip of nutrition on the way to the finish

    Giddy up!

A peek at the week ahead!
    • Saturday 7:15am:  The marathon training run has a 17 miler on tap. Starting and finishing at the RAC.  You can check out the route by visiting http://runningrochester.blogspot.com/
    • Sunday 8am:  The Off Season Striders get it going from Newts North in Rochester.  What a fun place to run from!
    • Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs are back at Wildwood Bar & Grill (located on the backside of the Ramada near the TJ Max Plaza).   The plan is to head toward Mayowood for a great run or walk.  Word on the street is it will be another great night!
    • Tuesday 6pm:  Returning to Millville!  This was one of my favorite trail runs, as I nearly sunk to my neck in mud while others laughed out loud, rather then offering a helping hand... you know, it's all good!  Paybacks!   The crew will meet at the Century HS parking lot near the baseball field at 6:00PM and caravan to Milleville. This one is an out and back 6 miles total or whenever you want to turn around
    • Wednesday 5:30pm:   The speedwork may actually get outside!  The location is being discussed by the powers of speed.  Check back for details on this one.
    • Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. is at the Bears Den in Byron.  Route options will be in the ranges of 3, 4 and 6... paces vary, some come on out and give it a go!

    Wednesday, April 24, 2013

    Thursday! --- finally!

Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. will meet at 6pm from the back door of Brothers Bar & Grill in Rochester!  It's important to head to the back door, as while we're out and about for a run/walk, we'd not want to give the impression there's no room in the bar!

Bunches of pictures still to load... and singlet contest is admittedly way behind schedule.   All to come.

Remember some additional opportunities are below
Saturday 7:15am:   Join the Marathon Training class for a long run starting at 7;15am.
Sunday 8am:  Meet the off season striders for a run at there's an off season strider run from Newts North!

Couple Quick Pics - Team R.E.D. Rocked the Country Music at Fetzer!

Along with several award winners.. Team R.E.D. had a fun water stop.   It was a great cause as today's race supports the Channel One Food Bank!

As the pictures below show... a fun water stop doesn't come easy.  It takes a lot of preparation.

    Congratulations Team R.E.D!

Congratulations are in order for Team R.E.D!
    Happy Anniversary!

It was 4 years ago today, this club made our first steps together. Running from the 'old bears den' in Byron.   At the time, we thought we'd gather once a month (once a month!)... and we'd go for a run come back for a drink (well some things haven't changed, but some surely have!)

As you likely know, we now meet EVERY Thursday, with additional opportunities on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday & sometimes Sunday!   Volunteer opportunities are ample as well!

Here is a slideshow from that first year... it's fun to see many of the faces that have remained an active part of Team R.E.D., and it's great to remember others who were active with us, but now not so much... if you see them, tap them on the shoulder and say "come on back!"

On that first day we had 21 members (far exceeding our expectations).  Today we have 195 members!   Wow!    Additionally, and you'll see it in the slideshow below, originally we had two sponsors.... and today, we have six fantastic sponsors!   It's all awesome!

Stay tuned for details... but for you types who like a teaser... TerraLoco is hosting a 4th year celebration party for Team R.E.D. in June.  All the details will follow, as the event is pulled together.  One thing I'm sure.. It'll be fun!

    *******************

Here's  a look at what's up these next few days...

Saturday 8am:  SEMYO (SouthEast Minnesota Youth Orchestra) is hosting their annual 5K run/walk.   It all takes place at Century High School and you can register on race day between 7am-7:45am!  Join the great race, with good food, good music and a nice tee, along with all the fun!
Saturday 9am:  The Fetzer Run to End Hunger 20K & 2 Mile takes place.  Registration details can be found at  http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?   Come on out to support Channel One and their mission to end hunger.     SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=230

    Hard to understand...

It's hard to understand what took place today, after several friends ran strong races in Boston.   Our prayers and thoughts go out to those who suffered loss and injury.

    Disney Marathon Update!

Here's an important update for those of you planning to attend the 2014 Disney Marathon and/or goofy, dopey whatever challenge you like!    See the note from Dan below regarding the events,  registration and the lodging.   Wendy and I traveled with a Team R.E.D. crew to this event in 2012, and we had an absolute blast!
    • If you logged on to see what's up this week, it's listed in Monday's post.
2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend!
2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend registration (quiet preregistration) starts tomorrow, April 9, 2013. You can all register on the link to Run Disney in this post. We are officially under Rochester Track Club as we needed their RRCA standing (Dan Mesenburg is the RTC Member Contact for Disney and will receive the RTC roster. TWO THINGS: 1. In the question "What Club are you running with?" you will need to select your club (Rochester Track Club) from the drop down list, and 2. To receive your discount ($10 to $15 per race): enter your assigned team code in the discount box ("RTC14" for 2014 Marathon Weekend). I think they use Active.com for those of you familiar with this. Disclaimer from the Mouse: Only one code per registration; codes are not retroactive... you miss it you don't get the discount; if you forget the club name at registration contact Dan from Team RED to straighten out the mess, and when you join as a team we are automatically entered for the team challenges in the half and full marathons. If you are going for the Dopey or Goofy, you must sign up for that challenge... not every race individually where you could get a bigger discount.

Last, if you are registered or going for sure, email Amy Mesenburg @ amy@svmrochester.com if you want to be included in the housing arrangements meeting in the future... we might have to rough it again in 2014...not! I am officially in on the Dopey as I need a goal to strive for!

Great Weekend... and more fun ahead!

Team R.E.D. singlet Contest designs are still coming (I'm working on getting them all into a similar format so they are presented well for voters!)..     Patience is a virtue (I read that someplace.)

    ******************

What a great weekend!   Team R.E.D. members were active in many ways!  Running, walking, swimming, aqua running, lifting and racing!   Nice work all.. very inspiring to see so many friends getting after it!

Welcome to Carrie!  She is our newest Team R.E.D. member, and she has jumped right in, joining on Thursdays, as well as taking the challenge of the track workouts!   Welcome Carrie!

    Carrie joins Team R.E.D.!

Carrie's official joining night was a big night from a turnout perspective!  40+ people joined for the run portion, with others coming for the E.D.  (this is the week following similar run / walk numbers at the Eagles club, with some 15-20 coming post run!)   Keep on connecting, that's the fun in it!

A few pics from Thursday below... what a beautiful night for a run in the country... hopefully we get more of these soon!

New visitor to Team R.E.D., Mark leads the pack.

John, Casey and Dan passing my shadow (that means I was ahead!)

    •  Monday 6pm:  Join Monday Maniacs at the trailhead in Douglas for a run or walk!  If you can't make it at 6pm, swing out about 7pm, as you'll find us inside the Douglas Saloon for a great time of chatter and laughter!
    • Tuesday 6:15pm:  Trail Runners should see the note from Jim below. The plans are speculative, so stay tuned.
      •  I plan on going to Chester Woods Tuesday if it's not raining. The forecast does not look good so I'm not going to make any definite plans.   If there is no rain meet me by the beach house at 6:15. If it is raining and storming, I'll be at Snap Fitness :)
        • I guess that means you can go to Snap Fitness with Jim, but you'll have to figure out which Snap!
    • Wednesday 5:30pm:  Based on anticipated weather, this weeks Track Workout is still inside!  Plan to gather on the indoor track at RCTC at 5:30pm and get some speed on!  For many, it's  really paying off in race results!
    • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is at Beetles Bar & Grill  located at 230 20th St SW (it's west of Hwy 52 along 2nd Street SW).  Looking forward to the great spring weather that evening!

    Nice Work!

The week is off to a strong start.... let's keep it rolling!

Congratulations to Team R.E.D. members Amy, Dan and Laura as their son (brother in Laura's case) set the Byron School record in Pole Vault on Tuesday evening!   The meet was electric, with people gathering around as the bar went higher and higher.  The rhythmic clapping was a nice touch too!   Robert should get some of the credit for clearing 14' as he did the actual vaulting, but he owes most of it to Laura for being a great mentor I'm sure!

The Monday Maniacs had about a dozen hearty runners out on that windy evening.  All reported it wasn't all too bad.  Get outside... it's Spring!

The Tuesday Trail crew found themselves running the country roads to avoid some ice on the trail.   That ice will hopefully ALL BE GONE! by this weekend.
    Tuesday Trail Crew!
One Team R.E.D. representative finds himself around the world!  Here's a picture I lifted from Mike's facebook page as he logs 5 miles in Tel Aviv!

Now this is a Rave Run!

    ****   Singlet Design Contest! ****

Reminder, any designs for the race singlet design contest are due by Thursday 4/4!  (That's tomorrow for those of you wondering!).    We have 10+ entries so far, but there is room for more!

    ***  Volunteers!  ***

We are still seeking volunteers for the Fetzer Run to End Hunger 20K!  Team R.E.D. is hosting a water stop (theme still be decided).  We'll have music and drink available!   If interested, please send Tom and email at Byron.teamred@gmail.com

*** The Rest of the Week! ***

As always there's more to come.... let's have some fun on the run!

    • Wednesday 5:30pm:  Get to the RCTC indoor track for some speed work.  The group is stronger the more that take part.  Come on out to get pushed, and push someone else!
    • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is at the Bears Den in Byron!  The previously scheduled track meet has been postponed, so you track parents have no excuse... get out for a walk or run, and settle in for a bit of a social!   Routes will be the range of 3,4 and 6 miles (and the 6 mile will not be the same as the last 2 times!)
    • Saturday 7:15am:   The Marathon Training long run takes off from the RAC.   The routes is not yet posted, but you will find it at the following blog.   http://runningrochester.blogspot.com/   This is a great place to long run, as it's supported with volunteers, water, Gatorade and sometimes some snacks!
    • Sunday 1pm:  The Fools Five rolls down the roads of Lewiston!  This is a fantastic event that raises a ton of money for cancer research!   Visit the Rochester Track Club calendar for registration forms, or a link to online register.  http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=250
