Before we hit the weekend update, here's a reminder that snow shoeing is not that far away, and if you're interested in gettin your hands on a Snow Shoe Crew Team R.E.D. jacket, you'll want to contact Mike Nepstad.   -- you can catch Mike on facebook or by email at "Mike Nepstad" <nepstad@frontiernet.net> --  He'll get you all set.

Best of luck to all of you Monster Dashing this weekend!  Should be great running temps!

If you're not Monster Dashing you might consider a 10K & 5K at Holy Spirit.. and it's appropriately called the Spirit Run!  This is a race this Saturday and you are invited to run in costume if you like... How lucky we have been this fall, with great running weather!  That was a bit of the chatter at the Tuesday Trail run near Eyota tonight.  (the rest of the chatter was much more fun, but the weather was worth a solid mention!)

If you've never joined Mason's Trail crew.. you should do it! and since you should do it, you should do it next Tuesday!  -- the plan next week is to run on the Douglas trail, starting and finishing at the Douglas Saloon... let's fill the place up!

Another Note:
Team member Gwen is offerening to lead a few things. (I was a little slow getting this posted, but there is still time!)  Be sure to connect with her if you're interested.  See he notes below regarding things she's happy to assist with.    Thanks Gwen!

1) Coordinate packet pick-up and carpools to the Monster Dash Half-Marathon/10 Mile races next Saturday October 27th.  Packets must be picked up Friday. Race is Saturday. They can send me an e-mail at gwenjacobson@charter.net   To pick up their packets I will need a copy of their driver license and their Bib Number which they can look up on the Monster Dash website.  See info below.

10-Milers and Half Marathoners must pick up their packets at packet pick-up.There will be no race-day packet pickup for the 10-Mile and Half Marathon.  Please bring with you your photo ID and your bib number    http://www.minnesotamonster.org/bib-numbers.html

2) Coordinate an order for Red running leggings. Brock at Terra Loco is checking into this for me. If we can get enough orders we will get a better price.  I would need to know name and size they would need.  Again, they can e-mail me and then I can determine what the interest is and work something out with Brock.  gwenjacobson@charter.net.   Need to get rolling on this if we want them for warmth for Living History race.
This Thursday 6pm:
Team R.E.D. is running from WildWood Bar & Grill.  This was the fan favorite on Team R.E.D.'s facebook poll... they have lots of TV's for  you Viking Football fans... and they have friendly service and good prices... come on out!

This Weekend:
Spirit Run takes place at 9am Saturday from Holy Spirit Church in Rochester.  This is a Rochester Track Club grand prix event, so if you're a member, there's even more incentive!
Lost Creek trail run is planned for 9am Saturday on the Lost Creek Hiking Trail in Chatfield. The Lost Creek Hiking Trail is a non-paved trail that runs 6.5 miles in one direction, along a
hilly and somewhat challenging route. A shuttle ride to the west end of the trail will be available leaving Groen Park at 9:00 a.m. (.25 miles west of the stop light in Chatfield). Water and refreshments will be provided along route. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, which will be transported
out along the trail. Simple snacks will also be provided. Although no registration is required, we encourage those wishing to participate to send an email to lostcreekhikingtrail@gmail.com to help us properly prepare for the event. Free will donations accepted. All proceeds will go to the Bluff Country Hiking Club, a 501C (3) non- profit club, to improve and maintain the trail.

The Lost Creek Hiking Trail was developed by the Bluff Country Hiking Club and opened in 2011. The trail was made possible by the generous private land owners who granted permission to access their land along the path. Please contact the club (jenniferbradt@msn.com) if you have any additional questions.

Bears Den & Beyond!

Hey all... the fun continues!

Take a peek at the the following Blog.. this runner spotted Team R.E.D. while running a great marathon at Whistlestop  http://www.muddycalves.com/2012/10/17/whistle-stop-marathon/

  • Tonight 6pm:  Team R.E.D. gathers at the Bears Den for a bit of a romp around Byron.  3 distances to choose from.  Come on out an run or walk with us!
    • Quick Reminder:  When meeting at bars/restaurants, try not to take the most prime parking spaces, as we park, then leave for 45-60 minutes, and it potentially makes people think the establishment is packed/crowded, when it fact it's not.  So.. just as a courtesy thing for us to think about.
  • Friday 6:30pm:  Sarah Schettle is directing a 5K to help patients with Heart Assist Devices, and a financial need.   Swing over to Soldiers Field Friday and run or volunteer!   Details can be found at http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=198  If you are available to volunteer, please drop Sarah a note at sarahschettle@gmail.com
  • Saturday 7pm:  The Nightbeat 5K and 2 mile takes place at Soldiers Field.   This is a well organized race hosted by Kevin Torgeson.  It's also a Youth Grand Prix event for the Track Club.  http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=76

... and of course.. the Mankato Marathon, Half marathon and 10K take place this weekend!  I'm sure we'll see some more great performances by Team R.E.D!

Great Night!

It was a great night at Brothers... the running temps are chillin' as are the Team R.E.D. members!  I bumped into Sathish, Sara and their little dream, Saurav at the Rice 'n Spice next door... It was fun to see them (clearly I needed to zoom in more on Saurav!)

Best of luck to all those running at Whistlestop this weekend!   Sounds like there's quite a crew ready to roll!

If you're looking for a group run this weekend, Off Season Striders are gathering at Panera South at 8am, they typically log 5-6 miles before settling in for a sip of coffee.   If you're looking for more miles, some are meeting at 6am to start pre-loading (slow miles).   Join us at 6am or at 8am!

Brothers !

Hey all.. it's been a long time since we've run from Brothers Bar & Grill in Rochester, but that's about to change!

6pm Thursday:  Brothers Bar & Grill for a run on the dowtown trails.  Please park in back, as that allows premium parking for those who are going to be guests of Brothers while we're on a run.  We'll also do the route talk out back. .

Don't forget that tonight... you have a chance for some speed work on the track in Byron.   Never done speed work before?  Well, 5:30 this evening is the perfect time to start!

For those of you running the Full Marathon or 10 Mile... Rochester area runners typically gather pre-race at gate 232 of the Metrodome before heading out to our corrals at the start.

For those of you spectating, the 10 mile finishers will establish a Team RED cheer zone very near the giant American Flag, located about 1/4 mile from the finish on John Ireland Blvd, so when you're done hopping along the course, come to the RED cheer zone and join us!

I'm working up a spreadsheet of who made it into the race, and who is on the bus... will send out a note to those folks this evening.

  • Monday 6pm: Monday Maniacs gather at WildWood Bar & Grill in Rochester.  Come on out for another great evening.  Can't beat this weather for a run, and can't beat this group for fun!
