Fantastic Day!

The weather turned out to be very nice for Med City runners... and a little chilly / wet for volunteers and the post race party.... but a little wet isn't enough to dampen the Team R.E.D. spirit!  Nice work all!

Below is a picture of Cam as he prepares for his first half marathon!  Cam lined up with some veteran Team R.E.D. members go get thing started!

Cam, Mike, Dan & Dave

Just a few updates on the week ahead below... (more pictures and updates from Med City will follow).

Wednesday 5:30pm:  Speed work at the RCTC indoor track.  I know it seems like we should be outside, however the forecast is currently calling for strong thunderstorms.

It was a great night for a run or walk... and of course, for hanging out in the back yard with a fire.  Thanks to neighbor Eric for supplying some wood for the fire!

    Wow!

Team R.E.D. members are every place!   This weekend provided an opportunity from the 5K, to the Marathon, to a 50 Miler!

Congrats to Rick C. who now owns the new course record at the VAD 5K!  Here's a shot of Jessica and Noel getting over the bridge and on their way!

The Lake Wobegon Marathon was a great success for several teammates!   Braden Boston Qualified ! Congrats!

Braden and Evan finished 6th & 7th overall logging times of 2:57:51 and 2:58:29!   Additionally, strong races were run by Marv, Dave, Mike, Lorelei and Renee (back in town for a bit!)

There was a great contingent of Team R.E.D. spectators as well, they reported it to be great fun!

Dave, Lorelei and Mike - post race Wobegon

Don Sullivan showed strong tribute to Paul Melby by pacing Paul's Pace... crossing the line at 3:14:38, within 1 second of Paul's 2011 finish time!  Very nice.  Additionally, Don made a contribution to the American Heart Association in Paul's memory.  If you'd like to do the same, you can do so at https://donate.americanheart.org/ecommerce/aha/aha_index.jsp

Meanwhile.. in Indiana... Andy H, Trevor and Jeff were running the Dances with Dirt 50 miler... Andy found himself running a few extra miles, yet finishing 4th overall!  Wow!

    • Tuesday 6pm:  Tuesday Trail Travelers are heading to Bill Barancle State Woodland for a romp through the bluebells!  Plan to meet at the BP in Marion and carpool / caravan from there.  These Tuesday night runs have continued to grow in popularity.  If you haven't checked it out..  this would be a great week to do so!

Here's to a great weekend of running, especially for those of you taking part in the Lake Wobegone Trail Marathon!  Don Sullivan (winner of Lake Wobegone Marathon 2 years ago), will be pacing the 3:15 pace group, in fact, he'll be trying to land right on Paul's time of 3:14:39.. his pace is called "Paul's Pace"

Additionally, this weekend there's a local race directed by Team R.E.D's Sarah.  Check out the information from Sarah below.

    • I (Sarah S) coordinate the VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) program’s annual 5K run/walk this coming Saturday 5/11 and thought I would pass along the race information on to you all in the event that anyone is interested in participating or volunteering. It is a small run/walk (around 20 participants so it is not very competitive) without official timing (we obtain unofficial times with a timer). There are small prizes for the top 3 men and women. All of the proceeds go to dressing supplies for VAD patients at Mayo Clinic who struggle financially and not to my running shoe fund. Thank you for considering!
      • VAD 5K run/walk
      • 5/11 @ 10 AM
      • registration 9-10AM @ soldiers field (by gazebo/golf course at Soldiers Field)

    Singlet Design Contest... Now Open!

The highly anticipated singlet design event is about to kick off!  At the bottom of today's post, you'll find all the entries and a brief description with some of them, as to what they are thinking.  Be sure to follow the voting instructions and let your voice be heard!

    *********************************

As you may recall, the 1st few days of May brought piles of snow!   Closing schools... but not stopping Team R.E.D.!   Thursday evening proved to be a great night for a run or a walk from the Bears Den... roads were mostly clear, and the temps were just fine.. no fair weather runners in this bunch!

    The Frozen Dozen!
Mike, Chris and Dave ... dress like winter

Jeremy know's it's spring... Adam not so much.

    ***************************

Saturday morning also proved to be a bit of a chilly start to the weekend.  Congratulations are in order for Team R.E.D.'s Millie as she drove forward with the Rochester Track Club's Spring Classic 5K!   -- Of course she did it with a lot of support from Team R.E.D. and Rochester Track Club members!  -- It takes a lot of volunteers to pull off a race, especially one that requires a last minute course adjustment, shoveling, ice removal and communications.

Thanks to all of you who participated and volunteered!

On to the Week Ahead.... and it's a busy one!
    • Monday 5:30pm: An opportunity for an early week track workout.  Tom W. is planning to lead it at the RCTC indoor track.   This Monday track workout is in preparation for the TC 1 mile race on Thursday!
    • Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs are heading to downtown Rochester (to ensure a clear path to run!).  Meet at Dooley's Pub for a run, and of course, circle back for post run chatter!
    • Tuesday 6pm:   The Tuesday Trail Trotters are putting a little Spring in their Steps and heading to Carly State Park for an excellent night on the trails.  Meet at the Century High School parking lot at 6pm to join the carpool/caravan.
    • Wednesday 5:30pm:  There will be another speed session!  Location still To Be Determined, but highly likely to be an outside event by then!
    • Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. gathers for another night of Run, Walk, Eat and Drink!  We'll get together at WildWood Bar & Grill, located on the backside of the Ramada, near the TJ Maxx Plaza.

    Now to the Singlet Constest!
The Winning Entry receives $50 gift card to the Bears Den in Byron!   Below is a reminder of how the contest works.  Note: Voting starts today, May 5th and Closes on May 12th.

    Here are the rules
    • You must be a Team R.E.D. member to enter and to vote.
    • The design must contain the words "Team R.E.D."
    • The words "Run. Eat. Drink.  2 out of 3 ain't bad" are optional
    • The design can be single color or multi color
    • The design can be for any color of singlet... design submitter should specify singlet color.
    • All eligible designs will be placed on the blog for viewing.
    • Inappropriate entries will not be eligible, and  not placed on the blog.  What is inappropriate?  I don't know, but I know it when I see it! (I usually see it in November!)
    • If we have limited entries, Tom O reserves the right to pull the plug on the contest.

    Voting process:
    • Voting opens on May 5th and closes on May 12th.
    • Each Team R.E.D. member will have one vote.
    • Your vote should be emailed to both of our volunteer vote talliers!  They will compare votes, and should get a match at the closing of the voting session.
    • This round of voting will get us to the top 3 .. and those singlets will be reposted, for a 3 day voting session to determine the eventual winner.
    • If you love the front of one and a different back, you can comment with your vote... but you have to vote on just one of them as posted.  We'll take into consideration a combined winner, if we see comments that are consistent enough to make that a viable option.  (potentially call a combined shirt a wild card with the final 3).

    Other Notes:
    • We do not plan to stock this item as Team R.E.D. inventory.  We will order in batches per pre-paid request.
    • It's anticipated the brand of material will be different from the current singlets.
    • The style of the singlet may be different from what you see pictured.... or possible we order some in a tank type style, and others in a sleeveless type style.  - that's all to be determined.
    • We will have samples of the singlets to try on before placing your order.
Here they are!  Note:  some people used the same source to create their designs i.e. customink, com   however, those entries are not necessarily all from the same submitter.

    Entry #1

    Entry #2

Entry #3 - On this entry the artist provided the following additional information:
    Singlet color - white
    Lettering – grey
    Running Guy – red

The slogan ( Run. Eat. Drink. Two out of 3 ain’t bad) and sponsors would be on the back in the same grey/same font.

Entry #4 - On the next 3 entries the artist provided the following additional information.
I noticed at the college meets they are blending the shirts from dark to white in the colors with or without patterns.  I like the new Stout singlets (blue though) so maybe that would be an option.  Mine go Team RED red at the bottom to white at the top even though I couldn’t get Publisher to do that.  And three different designs… probably skip the sponsor one for the singlets.  Also, I moved the logos off the normal chest spots to be unique.

Entry #5  - see artist remarks from entry 4.. they apply here as well.

Entry #6 - see remarks from entry #4 as they apply here as well.

Entry #7 - The artist provided the following additional information for the next two entries
The print company can put Team RED on the bottom or top of the bear.  They can put a smaller one on the back thenput 2 out of 3 ain't bad and all the sponsors ect....
