Great night at the Eide's

A big thank you to the Eide's for hosting Thursday night's Team R.E.D.!    It was a wonderful night for running and walking!   We hit the country roads, very light traffic, it was super nice out there!   Of course, we settled in for some refreshments and a nice fire as the temps dropped after sundown.

As is typical, several Team R.E.D. members joined for Eat. Drink. Only!

The run walk crew... a couple late comers missed the pic!
Coco has a new best friend in Esme!

A couple of events out ahead of us...

The Living History Farms Off Road Race registration opens on Sept 27th.   This event fast.. like 1 day!  With that said.... Wendy O is hosting a 'registration party!'   We'll provide some beverages, have lots of fun... and at 10pm, we'll all get on our electronic devices logged on and Get Registered!

For anyone unfamiliar, Team R.E.D. will charter a bus to the event.   You must be a registered participant to ride the bus.  So get it done!

The race is a fantastically fun one and takes place in Urbandale IA on Nov 23rd!  The bus ride is even more fun!   Team R.E.D.'s theme for the event is "Pirate"... and our bus leaves Byron at 4am on Nov 23rd... and returns to Byron at 4pm!  - That's a full day of celebration with friends and 7 miles in the middle!

Bri & Jen made good hillbillies at the 2012 Living History Farms race... they'll likely be some great pirates too!

Going the Extra 3.1 Miles for Health and Patients
Some of us need a little extra motivation to exercise and be physically active. It can also be helpful to have a little friendly competition. Perhaps there is motivation in numbers. At least a couple of groups on the Rochester Campus are organizing teams to participate in the Heritage Classic—a 5K (3.1 mile) fun walk/run, which kicks off Mayo Clinic Heritage Days at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 29 at Soldiers Memorial Field in Rochester.

“We looked at this event as a way to increase physical activity, support Mayo Clinic and another means to demonstrate support for our patients,” says Aileen Seoane.
Seoane is a member of Somos (Spanish for “we are”) Latinos, the Hispanic and Latino Mayo Employees Resource Group (MERG), and is recruiting fellow staff to participate as a team in the Heritage Classic. “I had a blast last year at the ‘Classic,’” Seoane says. “It was great to do something active, it inspires a sense of community and it is a way to help Mayo Clinic patients.”

Proceeds from the run/walk go to support the 150th Patient Care Fund, an enterprise-wide charitable effort to assist patients and families in need. You might just find that the physical activity will benefit you. Plus, more than a dozen Mayo Clinic departments will have exhibits with information and activities.

You can register for the Heritage Classic at Heritage Days intranet site http://intranet.mayo.edu/charlie/heritage-days/ or by calling Leisure & Lifestyle Activities at 507-284-4480. If you still need another incentive, if you register before 5 p.m., Monday, September 16 you also receive a t-shirt.
