Med City Marathon - Success!

Nice job by all the Team R.E.D. members who raced this weekend! - Many thanks to all those who helped at the Expo, Mascot Races, Pacing, Finish Line, Along the Course, Water Stops and Post Race party... you all made it a very successful weekend!

As you can see below, we had a few new members join Team R.E.D. - One person joined but is not pictured below, as we missed the photo opportunity - so along with these fine new members below, we also welcome Nick!

Here's a look at the next few days...


  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail crew is heading to Chester Woods park to preview part of the Mason Run @ Chester Woods course!  - Meet at the beach house, and bring a beverage and something to roast over a campfire if you like!  
  • Wednesday 6pm: Speedwork on the track in Byron. - the track is located behind the Middle School at 601 4th St NW.  Come join the fun.. no matter what your pace is, you're sure to get a great workout in. 
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is at the Bears Den in Byron. Join us for routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles! We always circle back to the Den for a great post workout social! 
  • Friday evening:  Donut Run in Byron - details in section below
  • Saturday morning:  Mason Run @ Chester Woods - details in section below
Below are some races we don't want you to forget about!  -  Note: For the Donut Run, if you can't make it, please consider logging on to the race roster page anyway, and making a Donation, as we have an anonymous donor who will match of to $500 in donations received!  Thank you for considering! 
  • Beer Mile July 14th at the Bears Den - This event is supporting the Special Olypics - Rochester Flyers track team!

The weeks are flying!

Let's get right to the day to day stuff...

Tuesday 6:15pm:  Twisting and turning is the theme at Eastwood Park in Rochester. The switch backs make for an enjoy trot through the woods! The Tuesday Trail crew is always welcoming... go SE MN Trail Runners!
Wednesday 6pm:  Speed work on the track in Byron.  Arrive early to give yourself time to warm up. The track is located behind the Byron Middle School at 601 4th St NW.
Thursday 6pm: Team R.E.D. rolls out from Brothers Bar & Grill on South Broadway in Rochester. Be sure to park in the back parking lot.. we'll do the route talk outside if it's nice, and inside the back door if weather is an issue.

We will be accepting registrations for the Beer Mile, Donut Run, Chester Woods .. we'll also be busy checking ID's and placing wrist bands on people for the Post Race party!  - oh, and don't forget, we plan to share what Team R.E.D. is all about with those who don't know!

Here's to the Weekend!

I hope everyone is out and enjoying the weather this week! Please remember, all of these fun events are coming up, we can use participants and volunteers!



  • Med City Marathon Weekend - Team R.E.D. hosts the post race party - we need volunteers for several roles:
    • Saturday May 28th 
      • Expo Booth  with a 2-3 hour commitment
      • Mascot Race - One person as the Team R.E.D. Runner - One person as the Byron Bear
    • Sunday May 29th
      • Byron Cross Country Water stop - this is not a Team R.E.D. water stop, but if you want to join the fun, you can bring your kids for about a 2 hour commitment
      • Post Race Party - ID Checks and Beer Pouring - 8am-2pm (or as long as you can).

Here's a look at what's going on the next couple of days.. 

  • Saturday 7:15am:  This weeks long run is 11 miles if you're training for Med City Marathon, and 16 if you're preparing for Grandmas Marathon.  Aid stations available along the route which you can find here  http://gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6866830
    • The Long Runs from the RAC are winding down, in fact, this is the last official marathon training run of the season.  Don't worry, it doesn't take long before the next session starts, and you can always find some running partners among Team R.E.D. members.   
  • Sunday 8am:  The Off Season Striders are heading to 5 West. This is a great spot for a post workout breakfast!  Paces are all over the board...some run faster, some run slower, and some run mediumer. 
  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading to Cowbow Jacks. This is another great location for Mondays, and it has a great patio area! This group also welcomes all paces, as do all our group runs/walks!

Wobegon is Upon Us!

It's exciting to see so many people are traveling to Lake Wobegon Marathon this weekend! I can't recall if the course if flat and fast, or if most of the runners are flat and fast... either way.. have fun!

This years Lake Wobegon marks the 5-year anniversary of the passing of our wonderful friend Paul Melby.  Wherever you are this Saturday, take some time to reflect on the impact Paul had on so many of us.

Here's what's up for the weekend and beyond! 

  • Saturday 7:15am:  The long run from the RAC is 15 miles.  Three aid stations are staffed along the route to make sure you can refuel on the go! Remember to bring $1 to help support the bananas and Gatorade each week. 
  • Saturday 10:30am:  The Hiawatha Valley League Conference Track Meet takes place at the track in Byron.  If you're looking for some entertainment after your long run, consider checking out the high school athletes getting after it!  Field events start at 10:30 - Running events at 11am
  • Saturday 8pm:  Several Team R.E.D. members are taking in the season finale of Aida at the Rochester Repertory Theatre... the show is featuring the fabulous Kasey! - the shows are selling out, so get your tickets (or check with Gwen to see if she has any left as she reserved several seats).
  • Sunday 8am:  Off Season Striders is gathering at People's Co-op in downtown Rochester. A great place to hop on the trail system and go!  A nice morning social follows. 
  • Monday 6pm: Monday Maniacs are heading to LTS Brewing.  Enjoy a run or walk and come back for some great beer and awesome popcorn!
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  Tuesday Trail crew is heading to Groen Park in Chatfield to run the Lost Creek trail. This is a favorite for many!  Meet at Groen Park and caravan to the starting point and run back to the park!  
  • Wednesday 6pm:  Speed work on the track - I'm certain the weather will cooperate!  Join us at the track in Byron located behind the middle school at 601 4th St NW. 
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is back at the Bears Den.  One of our favorites spots on the tour... prepare to run or walk any distance and come back for the social!

Monday 6pm: Monday Maniacs are enjoying a run or walk from the Tap House in downtown Rochester. Join for a great night on the street and rooftop!
Tuesday 6:15pm: The Tuesday Trail Crew is galloping at Gamehaven! Join for a run or hike and of course, enjoy the social after! - Note the starting point is the parking lot maked with the Red X in the picture below.  If weather is good, it's likely a bit of a parking lot celebration takes place, otherwise several nearby establishments for the social!


Wednesday 6pm:  Speed work on the track in Byron.  This is a great way to get yourself moving more quickly.  Remember, it's not about how fast you are today, it's how fast you want to be tomorrow!  The track is located behind the Byron Middle School at 601 4th St NW.
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is going to the Bears Den in Byron! - They offer such great support for all of our events and we get to enjoy 3, 4 or 6 miles!  Get out for a run or walk, and back to the Den for the social.

Trails are Rockin'!

The Tuesday Trail crew got out in great numbers at Carly State Park! - If you've never joined a Tuesday gathering, you should consider!

Here's what coming up next... sunshine! 


  • Wednesday 6pm:  Join us on the track in Byron.  We start the workout at 6pm, so plan your arrival to give yourself enough time for warming up.  On the track, we typically have one workout planned, and if that doesn't fit what you had in mind, you can certainly do your own thing and you'll still have the vibe of the group to help push you. 
    • This weeks track workout is a 3 mile tempo run.  Don't know how fast you should tempo? We'll help you calculate a good pace for you. 
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. heads to the Bears Den in Byron. On Thursdays we always offer multiple distances, you pick the one that fits you, or do your own thing!  Runners and Walkers of all paces are welcome! 
  • Saturday 7:15am:  The Marathon & Half Marathon training runs continue from the RAC.  You don't have to be a member of any local running clubs to join, just bring $1 to help support the aid stations provided along the way.

  • May 7th - Rockin' Robin Run - this event includes a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, 20 Mile and Kids run! - Lots of live music from morning to night - Kasey is performing with Nite Shift! Time Machine and Johnny Holm are there too!  More info at http://returnoftherobin.com/all-events#n2

  • May 28th & 29th! - Med City Marathon Weekend! - Join the fun with everything from Diaper Dash, to Kids Marathon, Mascot Races, Marathon relays, Half & Full Marathons!  - Don't forget the Team R.E.D. post race party with FREE BEER and Live Music from 8am-2pm!  More info can be found at http://www.medcitymarathon.com/
  • June 3rd - Donut Run! - This is one of the most fun runs you'll ever do! It's a 4K race in which you consume donuts along the route.   • July 14th - Beer Mile! - I know I said the Donut Run is one of the most fun runs you'll ever do, well, the Beer Mile is another one that fits that category! This years event has 3 waves... 
    • 0.0 Wave where participants will step over the Start line and be done! - Receive your medal and beer then sit back and spectate the next two waves! 
    • Beer Mile Open is the one for the casual beer miler! - You're in it 100% for the fun and not too worried about how fast you go! 
    • Beer Mile Championship is the one if you're going for speed. It's aimed at men targeting a Beer Mile of 8 minutes or faster and women targeting a Beer Mile of 11:30 or faster.

  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are running and/or walking from Wildwood Bar & Grill  in Rochester. It's a great chance to get on the trail and see spring a springing! 
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  Carley State Park is the gathering spot for the Tuesday Trail Crew! Join the fun - looks like it could be a nice evening, be sure to pack a beverage for post workout! 
  • Wednesday 6pm:  Speed on the track in Byron! - The track workout is not about how fast you are today, but how fast you want to be tomorrow! Join us! 
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is at the Bears Den in Byron.  Routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles await! Come one, come all!
