Wednesday / Thursday!


  • Wednesday 6pm - get your speed on at the Byron Track! - The track is located behind the middle school at 601 1st Ave NW in Byron.  - remember, it's not about how fast you are today, it's about how fast you want to be tomorrow! Let's work on it!
  • Thursday 6pm - Team R.E.D. has another wonderful home host! Thanks to the Eides for having us. Our hosts are providing Pulled Pork Sandwhiches, chips and water.  BYOB and something to share if you would like.  
    • The Eides are located at 27116 - 675th Street, Kasson.   - From Byron on Hwy 14 go West about 3 miles and turn left (south) onto 270th Ave and go about 3-1/2 miles and take a left on 675th Street.  Thye are the 3rd mailbox on the left, if lost, call 507-259-4261.

The weekend and a bit beyond!

Here we go.. there's a lot going on!

  • Saturday 7am:  The Marathon & Half Marathon training runs are down to 2-to-go! - This week the Longer run is 15ish miles, based on being two weeks from Twin Cities and Chicago marathons.  For those running a marathon a week or two later, you are encouraged to pre-load 5-6 miles and make it your last 20+ run of your training! 
  • Saturday 1pm:  The NAMI Walk is on! - Join us at RCTC with an 11:30am registration - and walk begins at 1pm.  - If you can't join us but want to donate, please consider joining the O'Leary team called O'Nami - you can do so at http://www.namiwalks.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=38052
  • Saturday 5pm: Med City Fall 5K - all part of the fall half marathon events! - You can register at packet pickup from 10am-4:45pm at Scheels.  
  • Sunday Morning - the Med City Half and 10K... and Post Race party with Nite Shift!   - Volunteers are still need to check id's and pour beer for the post race.   • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading to Pappy's, located along the Hwy 52 frontage road, just south of 19th St.  Monday's are great nights to get out, log a few miles, and meet some people! 
  • Monday 6pm: TerraLoco continues the 5K $5 Charity series.  Join to support a local charity each week and come back for a chance to socialize, and maybe even with some prizes! 
    • Note:  On Monday, October 10th - Monday Maniacs has elected TerraLoco as the location of their run. The charity that evening is NAMI!  - please join us! 
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  Quarry Hill is the scene for the Tuesday Trail Crew!  It's time to start wearing those headlamps!  Meet at end of 19th street in the parking lot near the tennis courts.  The location is depicted in this map, park by the red X

Tuesday 9:30pm:  The Night Owls are running from the Douglas Trail head in Rochester. The trailhead is located on Valleyhigh Drive near IBM.  This group is a lot of fun! - I'd advise headlamps for this one too!

It's a Brand New Week!

Many Thanks to all of you who were able to join us for the Pancake Breakfast! - It was a succes, and we had fun raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). -   Many thanks also go to the Bears Den for hosting! Very generous of them to support these two great causes!

  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading to Beetles Bar & Grill in Rochester. - This is always a fun location, and we haven't been there in awhile.  Join us for the run and the fun!  The route is typically 5-6 miles on Monday evenings. - Let's go! 
  • Monday 6pm: TerraLoco continues it's $5 5K charity run.  Non competitive event, with lots of fun! Join the crew!
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail Crew is heading to Gamehaven for a Wooley Bear hunt! Apparently, depending how many Wooley Bear you find, you can figure out how much snow to expect this year!  
  • Wednesday 6pm:  TerraLoco would love to have Team R.E.D. join their workout as they have a rep doing a demo/sample night from UCAN.    - I'm planning to check it out, and run a bit of an up tempo run that night along the trails.  Consider skipping the track workout, and picking them up and putting them down at TerraLoco! 
    • If you're not familiar with UCAN, it's a nutrition supplement not only for runners, but for anyone with a specialized diet. It contains SuperStarch, a natural, slow-releasing carbohydrate that delivers steady energy.   • Thursday 6pm:   Don and Sharon Gabrielson are home hosting at 2323 Wilshire Lane NE.  We'll have a couple of route options for you to run or walk, and of course, we'll circle back for the social. 
    •  Our hosts will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, chips water and after dinner cigars.  Bring your own beverage and an optional dish to share.  
    • Theme: Wear your favorite sports team apparel. Note that there will be a separate serving line for Packer's fans.

Volunteers!  - Team R.E.D. could use some volunteers to help us check id's and pour beer at the post race party for the Med City Fall Half Marathon.  The party runs from roughly 9am-1pm - if you can help for any piece of that please let me know by emailing me at byron.teamred@gmail.com   - Remember, Kasey and Nite Shift are the band, it should be a very fun post race celebration!

Pancakes & More!

Here's a look at the weekend!

  • Saturday 7am:  The Marathon & Half Marathon training long run from the Rochester Athletic Club.  Get your miles in with this group run... long route is 21ish miles and there are aid stations along the way. 
    • Note: This route includes an option to run to Byron, and get shuttled back to Rochester. The reason to run to Byron is the next bullet as you can have a chance to have breakfast while supporting two charities. 
  • Saturday 8am-10:30am - All-You-Can-Eat Pancake breakfast at the Bears Den! - This event is supporting the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  Two great causes, one great breakfast!
    • Special thank you to the Bears Den for the generosity in hosting the event
  • Sunday 8am:  The Off Season Striders are gathering at Panera South for a group run.  Distance can be whatever you like with OSS... join the fun, and stay for the social!

Home Host is a Special Theme!


  • Thursday 6pm:  Home Host with a special theme.  It's "Melby Night" -- if at all possible, don't miss this night. Details below... 
    • Jill & Adam Walter are hosting at 1286 Brookfield Ct NE in Byron, 55920
    • The Theme is Melby Night.  We know there are many Team R.E.D. members with great memories of our great friend Paul Melby, and there are many who never met him.  On Thursday,  if you know Paul, please come and share some stories, if you never met this man, please, please, please come and hear the stories!  He was incredible. 
    • During our routes of 3 or 5+ miles we'll visit the Melby Park - adopted by Team R.E.D. At this location we'll clean up any trash, we'll share some stories, and have a cold beverage, Hamms was his choice, so Hamms in your choice! 
    • We'll finish our routes and enjoy a great night at the home of Jill & Adam Walters..
    • For the theme, please consider wearing your "Melby T-shirt" if you have one, otherwise a Team RED shirt, or anything red.   Let's have some fun, and recognize a meaningful person in so many lives.   - If you never met Paul, but are open to hear his story, you will feel his impact through others. 
    • Our hosts are providing a Pesto Pasta Feed, Gatorade & Water.. and Hamms beer! Please bring a dish to pass if you like, an outdoor chair, and of course if you're not sure about Hamms (shame on you).. bring our beverage of choice!

A new week.. new fun!


  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are gathering at a favorite hangout, LTS!  Plan on a run of 5-6 miles and come back for a social. LTS is located at 2001 32nd Ave NW in Rochester. 
  • Monday 6pm: TerraLoco continues to drive positive forward with their $5 5K charity runs.  It's a non-pressure event and helps someone every week! 
  • Tuesday 6;15pm:  The Tuesday Trail Crew is heading to Eagle Bluff Environmental Center.. I've been there with our Cross country team, and there are some great trails to explore!  Meet at the Star Deck parking lot and enjoy!
    • If you have interest in seeing a high school cross country meet before you go to Eagle Bluff, the Byron Bears are hosting on Tuesday starting at 4:30pm for the Jr High athletes.  We would love some love! Go Bears! 
  • Tuesday 9:30pm:  The Night Owls are out!  Meet at the parking lot of the Douglas Trail - trail-head on Valley High (near IBM).. it's a great chance to connect and not worry about how you look!  - this group is consistently fun! 
  • Wednesday 6pm:  Get your speed on the track in Byron! - The track is located behind the Byron Middle School at 601 4th St NW.   
  • Thursday 6pm:  Home Hosted by the Walters family at 286 Brookfield Ct NE Byron. They are working on a theme, and details of the evening are forthcoming.. although I can assure you we will get out for a run or walk - your choice!

The Weekend!


  • Saturday 7am:  The RAC runs are rolling! You do not need to be a member of the Rochester Athleteic Club, or any club for that matter to participated.  The long course is 19ish Miles and the 1/2 Marathoner course is about 8 miles.  Looks to be great running weather! - Be sure to bring $1 to contribute to the support we have along the way!
  • Saturday 6:45pm:  The Night Beat 5K is in it's 7th year.. it takes place at Rochester's Soldiers Field.   • Sunday 8am:  Newts North is the location for the Off Season Striders.  Jump in with the crew and come back for coffee, breakfast or a cold one!

Tuesday 9:30pm:  The Night Owls are rolling from the Douglas Trail trail head at Valley High Drive (next to IBM and the Postal Center).

Additional Opportunity!

Sunday 1pm: There is a group hike that was just set up for Oxbow Park at 1pm on Sunday.  Join the fun!  Meet at the 1st Bridge (main picnic area) - be ready for some fun chatter and a great hike!

Let's get to the weekend!


  • Saturday 7am:  The marathon & half marathon training long runs are gearing us up for a great fall!  This weeks distance is scheduled at 17 for the full, and 11ish for the half.  Remember, please bring $1 to help offset the cost of the support provided, bananas and gatorade.  - and always keep in mind, this great training run doesn't happen without great volunteers! - Be sure to thank them, and/or sign up for a weekend!

    • Saturday 6am:  Several Team R.E.D. members are planning to pre-load with a few people looking for 23 miles.  If you'd like to start at 6am - join us!  Megan was looking or a 6:30am start, but I think she decided to "man up".. those are her words not mine.  
  • Sunday 8am:  The Off Season Striders got it going on!  Join this group at Panera South on Sunday morning, and come back for some nice social time! 
  • Monday 7:30am:  A special holiday addition of Off Season Striders - Join us at Dunn Bros on Elton HIlls in Rochester.  
    • Note Monday 6pm:  There is no officially scheduled Monday Manaics due to the Holiday weekend.  However, Wendy and I discovered we're not busy so we're walking and running at 6pm from the Den - Join us if you're available. 
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail crew is hitting a favorite location for so many. It's off to Whitewater State Park! Plan on 5-6 miles or running or hiking and come back for a Bonfire! - Meet at the parking lot nearest the Nature store. 
  • Tuesday 9:30pm:  The Night Owls are out again! Join them at the trailhead of Doublas Trail along Valley High Drive near IBM.  - It's fun to run in the dark with friends! 
  • Wednesday 6pm:  Speed Speed Speed.. join us on the Byron Track and let's turn those wheels! The track is located behind the middle school at 601 4th St NW. 
  • Thursday 6pm:  We made a change to our home host schedule... so we're back at the Bears Den!  They always do a wonderful job with service during the social, and they are always ready for us! - plan on routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles.. and back for some fun! 
    • The next home host will now fall on Sept 15th - Thanks to the Walters family for hosting us that evening!
