So Much To Update!

I have just a bit of time.. so I will have to circle back on some great race results with Team R.E.D. members, but for now... here's what's happening this week!
  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs gather at Brothers Bar & Grill in Rochester.  (this is located in the strip mall across from soldiers field park).  Please park in back so we don't make the place look packed, and then we all take off for an hour run or walk...   Route talk will take place in back.. so park there  --- plus, anytime a bar has a back door, that's the best way in and out!
  • Tuesday 5:30pm:  Speed work on the track at Soldiers Field.   Woo knows how to go fast, and he will help you do the same!  Turning over the feet is the key, and this is a great chance to get it done!
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  50 Shades of Autumn...   Meet at Chester Woods park for a fantastic trail run!  Mason puts on a top notch run week after week... join in!
  • Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. is at the Bears Den in Byron!  One of our favorite locations to gather.  Come for 3, 4 or 6 miles of walking or running.   Then stay for the post workout social!

Sunday Opportunties!

  • Sunday 8am:  The Off Season Striders are heading out for 4-8 miles (pick your distance).  They will gather at Charlie's Pub & Eatery on 2nd Street SW (just west of St Mary's).
  • Sunday 9:30am:  A trail running crew is heading to Winona to celebrate Garret's 47th trip around the sun!  If you'd like to carpool, meet in the parking lot of Hy Vee South at 9:30am.
Speaking of Garret.... his business, Mandala Tea, is offering discounts to TEAm RED members (see that trick little there where the word TEA is all caps within the word team.  tricky tricky).   Stop into the shop and mention you're a TEAm RED member to receive a 10% discount on all teas and tea thermoses!

Mandala Tea is located at 119 North Broadway in Rochester... they are open Mon. to Fri. 11am-6pm and 10am-3pm Saturdays.

Another Full Week Ahead!

The biggest event in my eye is....   Teri got married to a wonderful guy!  Eric has run with us a few times... he is simply afraid to join (actually, I don't think he's afraid to join... he just hasn't gotten around to it!).    I'll share some more pics, when they are cleared....   of course, Teri is an awesome member, and the wedding was reported as wonderful... I know the reception was fantastic, with dancing and all!

Here's a quick peek at the happy couple!  So awesome!

Eric and Teri... hitched!

Here's a low down of what I saw of race results this weekend... it's a lot of stuff!  If you raced, and I missed you.. please drop me an email!  I like to capture everyone if possible... but you all are so active!

  • Three Team R.E.D. members had fantastic marathons today!   Congrats to Andy, Marilee and Bri for strong performances at Quad Cities.   Marilee grabbed hardware for 1st place in her age group!   For results, check out the following link  http://qcmarathon.org/runners-information/race-results
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

  • The Hogan's were in force at the Birkie Trail Run... with Team R.E.D. members Alyssa and Diana having great races... and sister Grace looking wonderful as well!   For results check the following link.  http://itiming.com/searchable/index.php?results=btr2013
  • The In Yan Teopa Trail Run drew some more members, with Peter, Mase and Lana all having fun on the trails... great results here as well!  For results check the following link  http://inyanteopa.wordpress.com/
  • Mike Nepstad ran the Kickoff to Football 5K yesterday.  He reported it as an event Team R.E.D. would love!   Roger Craig was one of the celebrities present... he has taken up distance running after his NFL career.  Along with recording your race time, they record your last 40 yards... so you can compare yourself with the NFL 40 yard dash times...  Mike beat Roger Craig in that category!
  • Millie pulled off a Duathlon!   Bike/Run... and she had fun.   Said something like, "I think I like Duatholons as there is no swimming involved."   I put quotes on that, but it's merely a paraphrase.   I haven't seen official results from the Treadman... so if you ran it, let me know!  (or if you have the results, please share them!).

Monday 6pm:   Come join us at Wildwood Sportsbar and Grill for some fitness and fun! The plan is about the same as usual; we run or walk and then we have a few laughs! There may be a surprise during the run but you will have to show up to get the details!
Tuesday 6pm:  Bill Barnacle State Woodland trail run.   Meet at the BP station in Marion at 6:00 PM and we'll caravan/carpool out to Bill Barnacle. The fall colors are just starting to show up and BB is a favorite place to see them. Plan for about 4 miles of fun. If you have a headlamp you may need it towards the end of the run.  It's a lot drier than it was in May. Running through water is optional :)
Wednesday 5:30pm:   Speed session on the Douglas trail starting at the trail head in Rochester.  The trailhead is located on Valley High, near the back side of IBM.
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. has another fantastic home host!  Jim Li has invited us to his home in Rochester for a run or walk, and of course, a social post exercise.  Details, such as address are coming soon.
Friday 7:30pm:   The O'Leary's are hosting a Living History Farms Registration Party!
  • Join us at our home at 805 1st Ave NW in Byron.
  • Beer, Wine and Snacks are provided.
  • Bring your ipad, laptop or whatever you like to use to connect to the world wide web, and then at 10pm we'll all get registered for the Living History Farms Off Road Race.
  • The Charter bus has been booked, now we just need to know who is getting on it!  -- bus holds about 50 people and 6-12 coolers!
  • Living History Farms race takes place Nov 23rd at 9am... our bus will depart from the Bears Den in Byron at 4am... and we'll return to Byron at 4pm.   This is a fun ride!

Amazing!

Wow.. the things Team R.E.D. members are doing is amazing!   Several of you ran all or part of the 50K or whatever, hosted by Mason.

Congrats go to KP for completing his 1st 50K!   I don't think it was his plan when he started, but it was his accomplishment when he finished!

More congratulations are in order for Ramsey... he PR'd in a half marathon a week ago, and now again this week!  Back to back PR's.. and they were like 4-5 minute improvements each time!

Also Amazing... Team R.E.D. is sponsoring 3 youth participants into the Purple Stride this year!  Check out below to find a link to the event if you'd like to participate.

There are so many people achieving great things.. it's awesome to see!  Let me know if you know a member who has run a new distance, or achieved a PR... I am simply going by what I either know first hand, or learn via some form of communication.. like talking to each other!   or.. more simple forms of communication, like Facebook.     Kidding, kidding, I'd rather talk to each other!

As is typical, several Team R.E.D. members joined for Eat. Drink. Only!

The run walk crew... a couple late comers missed the pic!

Going the Extra 3.1 Miles for Health and Patients
Some of us need a little extra motivation to exercise and be physically active. It can also be helpful to have a little friendly competition. Perhaps there is motivation in numbers. At least a couple of groups on the Rochester Campus are organizing teams to participate in the Heritage Classic—a 5K (3.1 mile) fun walk/run, which kicks off Mayo Clinic Heritage Days at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 29 at Soldiers Memorial Field in Rochester.

“We looked at this event as a way to increase physical activity, support Mayo Clinic and another means to demonstrate support for our patients,” says Aileen Seoane.
Seoane is a member of Somos (Spanish for “we are”) Latinos, the Hispanic and Latino Mayo Employees Resource Group (MERG), and is recruiting fellow staff to participate as a team in the Heritage Classic. “I had a blast last year at the ‘Classic,’” Seoane says. “It was great to do something active, it inspires a sense of community and it is a way to help Mayo Clinic patients.”

Proceeds from the run/walk go to support the 150th Patient Care Fund, an enterprise-wide charitable effort to assist patients and families in need. You might just find that the physical activity will benefit you. Plus, more than a dozen Mayo Clinic departments will have exhibits with information and activities.

You can register for the Heritage Classic at Heritage Days intranet site http://intranet.mayo.edu/charlie/heritage-days/ or by calling Leisure & Lifestyle Activities at 507-284-4480. If you still need another incentive, if you register before 5 p.m., Monday, September 16 you also receive a t-shirt.
