Weekend and beyond...

Here's what's up for the next few days - hope to see you soon!

Saturday 7:15am:  The Marathon and Half Marathon Training Long Runs continue from the RAC on 19th street. This week's long route is about 16.4 miles... the half route, is about half of that! - Join this run as it's supported with wonderful volunteers!   You can see the route at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7038806
Sunday 8am:  Off Season Striders are heading out from Charlie's Eatery & Pub at Hillcrest Plaza (along Hwy 52 frontage road off the 19th St Exit).  This is always a fun group to run with... get it done and come back for the social!
Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading downtown for a run and fun. Join us at the Tap House, located at 10 3rd St SW Rochester.  We can get some miles and come back for brew and smiles! Monday's are a great night to meet some people!
Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail Crew is heading to the twist and turns of Eastwood!  Meet at the main parking lot along Hwy 14.  These are some fun trails to run, and Afters will be at the Wicked Moose for taco night - the record is 14 tacos, can you beat it?
Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls head to the Trail Head of the Douglas Trail for a evening of fun! Join the crew at the parking lot along Valley High next to IBM.  Bring a beverage for some chat time post run!
Wednesday:  Stay tuned as some members have been running tempo on Wednesday... and it sounds like a 'hill' workout from Byron to Rochester is in the works for this coming week. Details to follow.
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. heads to the Bears Den in Byron.  We'll hit some great routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles and circle back to the Den for the Social.

It's a brand new week!

Here we go again...

Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs are running from Newts at Crossroads Plaza along Broadway in Rochester.  This part of town offers a variety of choices for the run..and of course, come back to Newts for the social!
Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail Crew is heading to the Bill Barnacle State Woodlands. This is a fun location of wide trails and a nice creek.  There is a chance the low ground will be a bit wet, so be sure to bring dry shoes and socks to change into.  The location for the Afters is TBD...
Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls are out and about with a starting location of Beetles Bar & Grill in Rochester.  Join the fun on the run and the fun when we're done!  Stop in for a drink and chat post workout!
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is heading to Brothers Bar & Grill on South Broadway in Rochester. As always at Brothers, please park in the back lot so as to not take up the prime parking in front. We'll hit the trail system and enjoy the sunshine on the run! - Again, back to Brothers for the social!

As many of you know, Claire will be relocating to the Cities soon.  If you're available and would like to help load the Uhaul, please join us! We're packing her up at 10am on Sunday April 9th.  Please email me at bryon.teamred@gmail.com for her address, and so we know how many helping hands will be there...   We'll miss having Claire around, but something tells me we'll still see her even after she moves!

Great turnout! - More ahead!

There was a great turnout at Team R.E.D. tonight... it's so nice to run an evening run without headlamps!

Here's a look at the weekend...

Saturday 7:15am:  The full and half marathon training runs continue from the RAC.  Remember to bring a $1 donation to help offset the cost of providing bananas and Gatorade at aid stations along the route. The routes are roughly 16 miles for full marathoners, and 7 miles for those working toward a Half.
Sunday 8am:  Five West is the scene for Off Season Striders.  After a great group run, including runners ranging in different paces,comeback for a great social. Breakfast is yummy at Five West!

Interested in participating in a Mayo Clinic Study about running cadence?  As a coach, I'm always fascinated with different cadences, and trying to find that optimal space. See the details below from Becca.  some of you may have met her, she's a Orthopedic Physical Therapy Resident at Mayo Clinic and she helped us course marshal the runners during our Undie Mile!



Mayo Clinic Running Study
Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine is seeking participants for a running cadence study. As part of the study you would be assigned to one of two groups:
·        Group 1: Run at a step rate per minute > 10% of your preferred step rate
·        Group 2: Run at your preferred step rate per minute
To participate you must:
·        Be injury free
·        Be currently running  a minimum of 15 miles/week
·        Be willing to attend two to three 1 hour long sessions at Mayo Clinic
·        Keep a running log for 6 weeks
Participants will be compensated $15 for each session located at: Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center at the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center

The upcoming week!

It was a great trip to the cities for Lucky Palooza!  It would seem the event took a toll on some of the young guns!

Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs are also in a St Patrick's sort of mood as the crew heads to Dooley's in Rochester.  It's a wonderful downtown location providing many options for the run or walk, and of course, come back to celebrate the Irish!
Tuesday 6:15pm:  Whitewater State park is the place to be with the Tuesday Trail Crew. The plan is Trout Creek Valley, the meadow and a climb to the ridge.  Mauer Bros for the afters! Meet at the parking lot near the Nature Store along Hwy 74.
Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls are gathering at Beetles Bar & Grill on 2nd St in Rochester. Join the night crew as they meander the streets and trails! Of course, the social will follow!
Thursday 6pm: The Bears Den in Byron is our location for 3,4 or 6 miles or running, walking or skipping. We'll make it a St Patricks Day theme, be sure to break out the green and stick around for the social!

A couple of weekend opportunities!

Saturday 7:15am: The Marathon & Half Marathon long runs are going strong from the Rochester Athletic Club!  This time it's 15 miles for the Marathoners and 7 miles for the half marathoners.   The 15 mile route can be found at the following link... the 7 mile route would run to aide station #1 and return to get the 7 miles in.  Have fun all!  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7035485
Sunday 8am:  The Off-Season Stiders are heading to People's Food Coop in Rochester.  Make sure you moved your clock! or you might be late, might be early, might be on time... I suppose your result will depend on what you do with your clock!

Lots of racing going on... and coming up!

If anyone has interest in joining the Team R.E.D. USA Track & Field race team, please let me know by sending an email to byron.teamred@gmail.com  and I'll let you know how to get on the team.  

You do not need to be speedy to join our race team, we are in it for the fun!  It's great fun to travel together to races, and see how we do!   The Team Circuit consists of races ranging in distance from 1 mile to the Marathon.... you join the races that fit your schedule and your training, easy peasy!  The first race in the series is March 25th - O'Gara's Irish Run 8K (rougly 5 miles).

  • Monday 6pm: The Monday Maniacs are hitting a favorite of many, LTS Brewery is this weeks start/finish and social!  Check it out, there are a variety of paces each Monday, it's a great chance to connect with others!
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  The Tuesday Trail Crew heads to Quarry Hill for 5 or so miles. Once again, you can expect quite a variety of paces, and this group often stops periodically to get people re-grouped.  Plan on Glynners for the after social! Meet on the west side of the park, near the tennis courts at the end of 9th St NE Rochester.
  • Tuesday 9pm:  The Night Owls at on the Douglas Trail this week.  Meet at the trail-head on Valley High, next to IBM.  This is a fun place for an out and back under the moonlight!  Enjoy the strides, and celebrate with a parking lot social!  
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is heading to Chalies Eatery & Pub for a great run or walk. There are two entrances to Charlies, so be sure to meet by the Pub entrance.  Chalies is located in the Hillcrest Shopping Center at 1654 Hwy 52 North Rochester.  Don't forget to swing back in for the social!
