Sunday Hike - 1pm

Come on out to the 3rd Bridge at Oxbow park today at 1pm, for a hike of about an hour.  It won't be long before these trails are covered in snow, so we'll get out there and enjoy them while we can!   Then comes the reward of Margarita's at Margarito's!

More pics from the Spirit Run to come, but for now, below are Team R.E.D. members (and family members) who won awards at Saturday's race!   There is one stand-in for Roger as he earned an award, but wasn't there to receive it.   Sara and Hurricane each took home a door prize as well!

Dress As You Dare: Run Like You Care : More pics!

Thanks to Tom W, we have additional pics from Thursday's Team R.E.D.    I need to congratulate you all as you very much got in the spirit of the evening!    As you can see in the post below, you were also quite generous!   Fantastic! After you see this slide show, be sure to scroll down and see some shots of them on the run!

Good luck to all of you racing this weekend!   I really am looking forward to hearing the results and stories from those of you participating in events this weekend, including Surf the Murf 50K, Monster Dash Half Marathon and the local Spirit Run.   There are many many things going on... we just need to be there!

Here's the reminder on some of the upcoming local events:

Saturday:  Off Season Striders will gather at Brothers Bar & Grill at 7:30am.  They'll have a quick route talk and hit the road!    They will regather back at Brothers for some socical time.

Saturday:  15th Annual Spirit Run kicks off at 9am with a Witchy Kids 1K... followed by the Monster 10K at 9:30am... then at 9:35am the Fearless 5K!

Sunday:  Hike at Oxbow Park rural Byron will roll out from the 3rd Bridge at 1pm.    The hike is typically 50-60 minutes at a brisk pace.  It's a lot of fun... and now, followed by Margarita's at Margarito's in Byron!  They make some very tasty Margarita's!

Creative! Generous! Fun!

What a great night at the Schmitts Thursday!   Thanks again to Mike, Jessica, KP and Rachel for co-hosting the evening.  Additionally, for coming up with the theme of 'giving'!  I don't have the exact details, but two full bins of food, some winter coats and money were all contributed!   That's fantastic!

I was late arriving, and I know we had some people there who intended to join Team R.E.D. last night. I'll be sure to connect with you as we absolutely love having new members!  By the pics on the run, it sure looks like a great crew.... Thanks Mike and Randy for snapping some pics.  If you every have pics of R.E.D. members our and about, I'm happy to share them here as long as no one is being implicated in a wrong doing... not that anyone from this team would ever engage in wrong doing, but I'm just sayin'....

Routes Are Up!

Thanks Mike for creating them!    See the post below for more details of Thursdays Team R.E.D. and some weekend events!

Coming Up!

Thursday's Team R.E.D. should be yet another fun one!   This is a co-hosted event thanks to Karl-Peter, Rachel, Mike & Jessica!   We'll meet at 6:15pm Thursday Oct 28th at the Schmitt's home located at 3415 Chalet Drive NW, Rochester... the weather outside is frightful, so dress appropriately!

It's the 1st annual
“Team RED Scare Like You Care
pre-Halloween charity costume contest.”

Here's what's up....
  • Go for a fantastic run or walk in NW Rochester
  • Halloween Costume Judging - Prizes for the top 3 costumes as voted by your peers!
  • Contributions of Winter Clothing, Canned/non-perishable food goods and/or a monetary donation to the Channel One Food Bank. -- Prizes to the top 2 contributors (individual or family)
  • Hotdog Buffet and Chili Provided
  • Please bring a side dish to share
  • Keg of Beer Provided  --  That's my favorite!
Note: the slightly later start time is a bit of a favor to me!   Byron is participating in the Sections Meet at Northern Hills Golf Course.. girls run at 4pm.. boys at 4:45... which means I would be late to Team R.E.D. of course!     The top two teams, for boys and girls, will advance to State.  The Byron Boys have a shot, but it's going to be a tight battle as Plainview is the favorite, but they are followed closely by Byron, Winona Cotter and LaCresent.   All 3 of these teams, have beat each other at some point this season, should be fun!

If you're interested in checking out the meet, come on out.. it might even be slightly less blustery compared to today!

*****************************************

Saturday:  Off Season Striders will gather at Brothers Bar & Grill at 7:30am.  They'll have a quick route talk and hit the road!    They will regather back at Brothers for some socical time.

Saturday:  15th Annual Spirit Run kicks off at 9am with a Witchy Kids 1K... followed by the Monster 10K at 9:30am... then at 9:35am the Fearless 5K!

Routes and Next Week's Plan!

Routes are posted on the right hand side of the blog.  We'll gather at the Bears Den at 6pm for the route talk, and we'll be off and running! so to speak...  Again a reminder, it does start to get pretty dark by 7pm, so if you have a head lamp, we are approaching the time to wear it!

***************************************
I'm excited to share this next Team R.E.D. opportunity!   Karl-Peter, Rachel, Mike & Jessica are teaming to co-host a Team R.E.D. event on Thursday Oct 28th.   They devised a great plan with will be both fun, and rewarding, all at the same time!

It's the 1st annual
“Team RED Scare Like You Care
pre-Halloween charity costume contest.”

Please come with your running shoes and your best Halloween  Costume.  There will be prizes for the three best costumes as voted by  your peers on paper ballots.  Food will be provided (a hotdog buffet  and chili) and a keg of beer, so if you want to drink something other  than beer you need to bring that.  Please bring a side that runners,  family and friends can share.  There also may be some standing outside so I would recommend bringing warm clothes for yourself to
wear after the run.

Now.. for the most important part!   Team RED greatly encourages runners, walkers, families and friends to bring  used winter clothing and canned/non-perishable food goods they are willing to donate to Channel One Food Bank.  There will also be a monetary donation bin that 100% of the proceeds will go to the Channel One Food Bank.   There will be prizes for the two individuals/families that bring the most food and clothing items to donate.

The event will be held at the Schmitt residence in Rochester.  The  address is 3415 Chalet Drive NW, Rochester MN, 55901.  Please invite family and friends so that we can have a good turnout for this great event and show that Team RED cares about our community.

Let's Go!

As we've become accustomed too.. there's plenty going on!

Thursday 6pm - Team R.E.D. at Bears Den  -- 3 routes will be posted Wednesday.
Saturday 7:30am - Off Season striders from Dunn Bros. on Elton Hills Dr.
Saturday 8am -- Mankato Full & Half Marathon... Rock 'n Roll Team R.E.D. members!  We'll be tracking your results, and look forward to hearing the stories!

************************

Below are some very preliminary  ideas for a Team R.E.D. Boston Marathon Satellite event are coming together... note.. all things are prelim.. but here is our starting point..  The inspiration of this event is to support those who qualified for Boston, but didn't get in due to the incredibly quick closing to registration.    We could make this a very fun alternative!
  • Race to take place at same date/time as the official Boston - Monday, April 18th , 2011
  • Must be Boston Qualified to participate - submit qualifying race date/time
  • Race Name:   Patriots Day Marathon - The Unofficial Boston Marathon Satellite Event.. brought to you by Team R.E.D.
  • Aid stations -- and this may be difficult to pull off, if we really go on a Monday (which is how I see it, Monday in sync with the actual Boston marathon)..
  • Several ideas along the course to mimic the Girls College of Wellsely, the Boston college atmosphere, the start, the finish...
  • Awards/ Cookies (thank you renee!  )  we can find more food as time goes on
  • A post race party

**********************************

As a complete side note...     Go Byron Bears Cross Country!   The conference meet is Wednesday at Zumbrota... the Byron Boys team is in a battle for the Conference Championship.   The girls and boys alike, have runners who surely are in contention for All-Conference Honors!   Go Bears!

Boston Filled!

I am absolutely stunned.  The Boston Marathon filled faster then it ever has.. just 8 hours!   Last year was 'fast' and it filled in about 2 months!

Please let me know if you got in... or if you were qualified, planning to attend, and didn't get in.    I'm in shock at the rate it filled...

Couple additions to the week!

So I sent an email a few hours ago.. and already there are additions and updates for the list of the week ahead...

Monday Night Football!  -- Adam and Jill Walters are hosting a Monday Night Football party.    Come to 286 Brookfield CT NE in Byron anytime after 7pm.. and enjoy the game!   BYOB and some game day snacks! -- Get ready to watch Moss tear it up!   Superbowl Homeboy!

Tuesday morning Oxbow Park run:   7am meet at 1st Bridge.. this will be a 5ish miles... through the upper trails (Maple trail.. to upper meadow... down to 3rd bridge...  over to the deer and buffalo...  and back to first bridge

Tuesday evening runners social:   6pm at Beetles in Rochester.   There is no running required!  Bring friends and family as well!

UPDATE:   Wednesday morning progressive run:   5:30am from my home, 805 1st Ave NW in Byron.   We are changing it up a bit this week... to increase tempo every 1/2 mile (rather then what we did previously, every mile).. starting at 10/min pace.. increasing in 30 second increments.    Come give it a shot, it's a great workout!   Hold on for as many increases as you can... if you hit a spot where you just feel you are not going to make the next pace.. continue to challenge yourself to maintain the pace you are at.  This is not a slacker workout!  haha.. but I'll do it anyway.

Wednesday evening Practice:   6pm from the Running Room in Rochester.  This is a weekly run.. and free of charge!  Come on out and get some miles while meeting new people.

Thursday Team R.E.D.:   6pm from the Bears Den in Byron.    Routes will go on the blog Tuesday or Wednesday.. they will fit the typical patteren 2.5 , 4 and 6ish miles...   I don't think we're there yet, but we are fast approaching headlamp season.  Keep an eye on the sunset, and if you have headlamps... please wear them for the Team RED runs once darkness sets in.

UPDATE:
Saturday Morning Off Season Striders:  This fun group gathers at 7:30am each Saturday.   This week's location is Panera South, ( next to Hy Vee) .   They'll give a route talk, head out on the run, and gather back for some coffee and social!

UPDATE:  Sunday Oxbow Hike:  Details will follow, but the Vikings play a late game, so this hike may move up to late morning / early afternoon time frame.   Also sounds likely the hike will be followed by Margarita's!  <<-- that's a weekly statement.

Oxbow Hike & Party Reminder

It was a great night at Oxbow.. the 1st Bridge parking lot is now open, but we had arranged to meet at the 3rd bridge.  All good.. parking lot still closed, but we found a spot in a field.  Dusty dusty field!

The park was hopping.. what a great weekend to get out to the trails!    Our hiking crew consisted of Ann, Mike, Wendy and myself... we ran into Tod Bellrichard, actually, he ran into us!    Meg & Steph Bellrichard were also out and about on the trails, and while Team RED didn't spot them, a few Byron Cross Country athletes, logging a few miles, ran into the them!

The leaves are not only turning colors, but also falling, and the crunch beneath your feet, is pretty fantastic!

--- Note:  In the first two pics below, you'll see Tod and I have some really cool shades! ---

We wrapped up the Hike/Run/Fun with a quick sip at Margarito's... yummy!

Moss-Day Night Football is coming up!  And, you should know, Team RED is invited  to Adam & Jill Walters as they host a Monday Night Football party.  Come on out to 286 Brookfield CT NE in Byron and enjoy the Welcome Back Moss Party!  BYOB and some game day type snacks.  Pizza is an option here too.. bring and we cook it!

The Fun Keeps Rollin'!

It sure was a fun night at the Ryans Thursday... fun night for Team R.E.D. not such a fun night for Team Minnesota Twins.. ugh!

We met a new Rochester guy.. Steve Rabatin (pictured below) came along with KP to enjoy the evening run and social.    Seems like a great guy.. his wife Amy (I hope I remembered her name correctly) is also a runner, but had her nose in the books Thursday.

Below is a slideshow from the post run/walk/bike -- that's right, I said bike...  Randy and Joe turned to the wheels for the evening.   I'll add some more pics from Paul when I get them, so be sure to check back for those updates.

********************************************

You can still join us for the Saturday morning Breakfast Run from Renee's!   Her home is at 2026 Kal Lane SW in Rochester.   The run officially kicks off at 7:30.  However, several R.E.D. members are meeting at 6:30am to get some extra miles early and we'll return to Renee's for the 7:30 start.      Check out her blog at Ramblin Renee (wednesday's post) to see the routes of 5K, 6 Mile or 11ish miles.   This Breakfast run is the official kickoff of the always fun, Off Season Striders!   You can RSVP to Renee at  rsaxman@charter.net

5:30PM From The Ryans

See the post below for tonight's Team RED Plan.

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Change Of Plans: Location & Time Change! Please Read Below!

This week was previously designated a Bears Den night, however, given the Minnesota Twins playoff game takes place during our run, we have made a change of plans.   The change impacts both start time and location.
Joe & Sara Ryan will host a 5:30pm start from their home at 5236 Middlebrook Dr NW in Rochester.   They plan to DVR the game for anyone who wants to catch every hit, homer and strikeout post run!   This would allow for about 40 minutes of running/walking for those who want to catch the entire game (Joe would start the playback about 6:10pm).  If the game doesn't concern you, you can just keep working out!   Or just enjoy the company... wooo hoo!

Our hosts will provide a main dish (some type of chicken I believe).. please bring a dish to pass.... and bring your own beverage.  We'll be much like the twins.. watching outdoors!  Well, garage anyway, I presume the garage doors will be open !  Bring a chair.. that always helps!

If you're reading this and not on our Team R.E.D. distribution list, but want to be, please drop me a note at byron.teamred@gmail.com

Great Race Weekend!

Wow... what a complete race weekend.  Team R.E.D. members were not only in Minneapolis, but also in Spring Grove and Milwaukee!

Bellrichards set the bar as Tod, Meg and their daughter Steph all ran the 5K in Spring Grove.  That was Steph's first 5K!  and Meg's first 5K in her new age group!   Happy Birthday Meg!  Then Tod topped it off by running the 5K Saturday, and the Twin Cities 10 Miler on Sunday!  Way to go Team Bellrichard!

In the Twins Cities, the SuperStar Award goes to SuperMan, Andy Hemenway!   He not only PR'd, he crushed it, running a 2:58:44 Marathon!    That's a 6:49 pace for 26.2 Miles!   Wow!  Nice work Andy!  Here he is enjoying post run with Erin.

Below is a slide show of the Twin Cities Marathon and 10 Mile participants that I caught.  There were so many more but catching everyone was quite the task!   I've also added a link to Tom Woo's pics, as he captures such great shots.    Thanks Tom! http://sports.webshots.com/album/578702743dGqqBD

****************************************

Also.. if you check out this link, right after the 26 mile marker is flashed 40ish seconds in.. you'll see some team RED members (across the street from the camera)... Thanks for the lead on this one Andy H!

Another way to Track

In a previous post I shared a link to receive text message updates on runners in the TC Marathon and  TC 10 Mile.   You can also receive online updates... check out this link to consider the two options.

http://www.mtcmarathon.org/Marathon/index.cfm

On a more exciting note.. Mike and Jessica Schmitt have announced the name of their new baby girl.   She's Lucy Jane... and a little cutie!  Congrats once again!

Friday, October 1, 2010

Congrats are in Order!

Mike, Jessica and Benjamin Schmitt just welcomed a new member into their family!    As of 11;08am, baby girl Schmitt was born!     That is so awesome... Benjamin is going to be a great big brother!

Mike and I talked by phone, and we are sure, given her build, and current dietary plan, that she will have the quick turnover and win her age group very shortly!

Good Luck Runners!

Twin Cities Marathon and 10 Miler is this weekend! Good Luck to all of you!   The weather looks absolutely fantastic!

It all starts at Metrodome...  the marathon weaves 19 miles through some fantastic Minneapolis neighborhoods before crossing the Mighty Mississippi and heading to St Paul, then up Summit Ave to the Capitol.    The 10 miler is dubbed "the shortuct to the capitol"  as it also starts at Metrodome but runs along the river for 2.5-3 miles before crossing the Franklin bridge and heading to Summit.   I picked the right race.. 10 miles is less then 26.2 (I'm really smart!).  The pic below is from a couple weeks ago, when Paul and I prepared to run the course as a preview.

Below is a list of Team RED and Friends of Team RED that I know are running.   You can get Txt message updates on runners by visiting and registering at   http://run.convergent-solutions.com/Registration/

For those of you running... a group of runners from our area, typically gather near section 232 in Metrodome.   It warm, dry and near flush toilets!
