Grandmas Lodging & Bibs for the Half!

As far as I have heard... everyone who has reserved lodging at the College of St Scholastica has filled their rooms. - With that said, I am also aware of a couple of people still trying to figure out the lodging. If there is anyone still trying to get connected let me know, and I'll get you connected with each other because there are still rooms available at the college!  Let's get everyone in!

Speaking of Grandmas - You can still get in! Several R.E.D. members joined Team Hope last year, and that opportunity exists again this year!  See the instructions from John Hogan below.. John is a great guy and father of the Hogan sisters we all enjoy so much! Your entry fee is not hiked up... yet it all goes to charity!

  • Go to Grandmas webpage, find the Charity Partners, then the Pancreatic Cancer (Team Hope) and click on it. Find Hollys Entourage and then Join Team....
  • The Half Marathon & 5K are still available to join
  • Your entry goes to PanCan and you will get the entry pass word after you join the Team.
  • It takes a week or so after joining the team (and paying) before you actually get the email from Pan Can and the password needed to register on Grandma's website.

The USA Track & Field Series get's underway with the O'Gara's Irish Run 8K!  If you want to race for Team R.E.D. you can get started in March! A lot of people tell me they think they're too slow to race for Team R.E.D. and that's just nonsense.  This is a Team!  We carry each other! All paces are welcome to join the Team R.E.D. race team.  In order to race for Team R.E.D. you need to join USATF and associate yourself with club # 435 Team R.E.D.  http://usatfmn.org/membership

Grandmas Marathon Weekend Lodging

The online registration for dorm rooms at the College of St Scholastic is now open!  Many thanks to Gwen for getting us the low down!  Remember, this year you'll need to book a room, and collect from your own roommates.   If anyone is struggling to find roommates, I would suggest Facebook as a great spot to seek people still seeking roommates!

Visit the following link and make a reservation for your group to stay at the Team R.E.D. preferred lodging!
Important Notes Below:
The prices you see are before taxes and the reservation fee.
If you want four separate bedrooms (these units are four separate bedrooms with a single dorm room bed, living room, and kitchen) be sure you select the Apartment for $570. This rate is a two night rate (whether you stay one night or two). Divided by four = $142.50 per person (bedroom) for the two night Friday/Saturday stay. One person will need to go online and book using a credit card and then collect from your roommates.
There is a place to make a note on the reservation. Add a note as follows: “Please reserve my room in a block/same building with other Team RED reservations”.
Check-in time is usually around 3 p.m. on Friday, June 17th. The reservation link will provide additional information on what is included with the apartment.
Please feel free to contact Gwen Jacobson (507-254-0529, gwenjacobson@charter.net) if you have questions but please note she is not making reservations for the group this year, each apartment is responsible for making their own reservation.

  • Grandmas Marathon Weekend...
    • Gwen is gathering the details as to how we can book our rooms at the dorms.  This has been a popular, and super fun place to stay as a group over the past several years.  Hopefully if you're going to Grandmas you can join the Dorm Group! (these are not your regular dorms, more like apartments/suites with multiple bedrooms).  - Gwen has been our leader the past few years with the lodging, and before that the effort was taken on by Randy... we sure appreciate what they both have done for the club over the years!
    • If you previously registered for Grandmas Marathon and want to race for Team R.E.D. as part of USA Track & Field - Please send me an email at byron.teamred@gmail.com - I will send a complete list of Team R.E.D. marathoners to the USATF team and make sure you are counted in the scoring.
    • If you are registered for Grandmas Full marathon and are not interested in joining the USA Track & Field team, please reconsider!  Its super fun to compete as a team and see how we fare against other clubs throughout the state.
  • What do you mean when you say "Race for Team R.E.D. as part of USA Track & Field ?
    • Team R.E.D. is registered as a USATF club.  With that, any of our members who want to join USATF as individuals and associate with our club, can race for us.  There's a series of races in which all the USATF clubs get guaranteed entry, and typically, a preferred start and discount off your entry fee.   (depending on which or how many races you run, you'll get much of your membership fee back in discounts).
    • What races are involved in the USATF series?  Below is a list of the races.
  • Saturday, March 19 - O'Gara's Irish Run 8K
  • Saturday, April 30 - Get In Gear 10K -
  • Weeknight, May TBD  - Medtronic TC 1 Mile

  • Sunday, October 16 - Fort Snelling 15K Relay

  • Several of these races are in the Twin Cities so we often carpool or caravan (or occasionally, rent a bus!)
  • How has Team R.E.D. fared in competition?  - We do really well at the Torchlight 5K, Twin Cities 10 Mile and Grandmas Marathon.  Some of the other events we don't fill up our team as well as we'd like to and sometimes receive no score. - which has a direct correlation as to where we finish in the team standings.
  • In 2016....
    • Men were 6th out of 8 teams in the Open Division
    • Men were 4th out of 8 teams in the 40+ Division.
    • Women were 5th out of 8 teams in the Open Division
    • Women were 9th out of 14 in 40+ Division.
  • I'm not very fast, and I don't want to hurt the team so I am not sure if I should join.  - BS!  It's nothing to worry about... in some cases, regardless of speed, you might actually help us field a complete team and show a score!  - Slow or fast you are helping!
  • I want to help improve the Team R.E.D. results.  How do I join?   Visit http://usatfmn.org/membership and associate yourself with Team R.E.D. #435
O'Garas Irish Run 8K registration is open and this is the 1st race in the USATF series!  If you race for Team R.E.D.s USATF team you'll receive a $5 discount by using code USATF16 - you must have a USATF membership # to use that code.  - this is a fast course to test your speed!

You are all amazing!

As a collective group, I do believe we could be the worst bowling team in the Nation!  Yet as a collective group, we very well may be the most fun collection of people I've been connected with!  - oh but we do stink at bowling!

Many Thanks to Adam and Jill for organizing such a fun event.. and many thanks to Woo for taking such great pictures!

Jess gets in the action as Sonja and Scott attempt to do math?  Scott won an award (we won't say what it was here).

Meagan receives the Top Woman Bowler Award!

Sarah receives the Ball Buster Award - she got to keep the ball!

Dan joins Tod in the Team R.E.D. Bowling Hall of Fame! - Champion!

Molly, Lisa and Jill seem to think this is fun.. it's not, it's competition!

Jill ready for some serious bowling! - Get out the way!

Shane with a mighty causal look - wins Worst (Best) Dressed!
The Team .. Ready to Roll!

Our fantastic organizers!

Winner Winner! - Wendy Worst (Best) Dressed!

Singlet For The Clock! - Thanks Brock!

Hey.. as many of you know, Brock moved on from TerraLoco to pursue the State of Run which is the clothing line that many of us simply love!  Brock is offering a Team R.E.D. discount of 20%!

Here it is.. visit his site at https://stateofrun.com/  and be sure to use discount code teamred20 to receive 20% off your order!

Additionally, Brock is helping Team R.E.D. with our drive for a Team R.E.D. timing clock! - He is donating singlets, YES SINGLETS! - The funds from these singlets will help us buy our own clock to support our races, as well as support youth sports!  I will layout the "Singlet for the Clock" details as soon as we have those singlets in hand....  but be sure to know, Team R.E.D. is racing in style in 2016!
