Thursday Night! - Vikings vs Packers! Bears Den!

Join us Thursday at 6pm for a run or walk.. then settle in to the Bears Den for the social and.. Vikings vs Packers game!

In fairness, we have members on both sides of the fence, which is hard to understand, but it's true!  So to keep everyone happy, I've inserted two videos below (one not so nice to the Pack and one not so nice to the Purple).

Enjoy the videos, both dated, but hey they are quality!... and while you're here, vote on costumes for Living History farms, register for Living History farms and drop me a note that you want to be on the bus for Living History farms!

Registration for Living History Farms is Open!

This event does fill up fast!  If you're interested, get out and get registered.  You can do it by visiting http://www.fitnesssports.com/November_races/LivHistFarms/lhf_index.html and clicking on the GetMeRegistered link.

2013 Living History Farms crew.. yes.. that's snow!  and yes, those are pirates! and yes.. that's our bus!

After you register, if you'd like a seat on the charter bus, please send me an email at byron.teamred@gmail.com   to confirm you spot!  It's a super fun trip, departing from the Bears Den in Byron at 4am and returning to the Bears Den at 4pm (typically we have an optional meal available at the Den, I suspect that will be the case again.. I just haven't had the discussion yet).

****************************

  • Sunday 7:30am:  Off Season Striders are running from Dunn Bros North.  This is a great morning group, paces vary, and distance is up to you, most of the group is typically 5-8 miles.
  • Sunday 1:30pm:  Hike at Oxbow... the Vikings play the late game, so we thought an early afternoon hike is in order to make sure we're relaxed before the actual tension starts to set in!  Meet at the 1st bridge (2nd parking lot on your left as you enter the park area).
  • Monday 6pm:  Monday Maniacs are heading to a new location... Pappy's Place at 1625 North Hwy 52 (which puts you along the frontage road, just south of the 19th street exit).   New location for the Monday crew.. new route!  Fun!
  • Tuesday 6:15pm:  The trail crew is hitting Quarry Hill!  This is always a great location to get out and run!  Meet at the Tennis Court parking lot to get things rolling.
  • Wednesday 5:30pm:  Note! New start time for the Hill workout crew! The sun is setting a bit sooner, and they want to maximize daylight!
    • On that note.. it's time to make sure you're wearing reflective gear on the evening runs, and consider pulling out the headlamps soon!
  • Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is at the Bears Den in Byron. One of my favorite places!  They are so supportive of us and it's where we got our start!

I'm not sure why Megan is reacting as she is in the pic below, but I will go on record, both of my hands are visible, so it was not me!

As long as we're showcasing big checks.. here's a shot I lifted off facebook of Dani from a few weekends ago!  I guess when it comes to the ladies of Team R.E.D. ... these big checks indicate, size really does matter.

Here's a look at what's just around the corner...

More yet!

So there is always something around the corner!  Sometimes it's a scary thing, but this time it's not!

Saturday 7am - The marathon training long run continues from the RAC.  As we approach the fall full and half marathons, these are maxing out... this route is flexible with multiple loop options at Soldiers Field.. so plan on anything from 18.5-22 Miles!
Saturday - for some period of time - Several Team R.E.D. members have traveled for the Madison Garden Marathon!   I just couldn't help but chuckle to see Jen put this helmet on Tom... in many ways, this picture makes me smile!  --

Go Team R.E.D.!
Run Fast, Have Fun and Always Wear A Helmet!

Jen trying to convince Tom this looks good!
Sunday 7:30am - Off Season Striders are getting it done again!  This time from Brother Bar & Grill in Rochester.  Meet behind the bar near the back doors, if it's chilly, the crew very well may be inside those back doors.
Sunday 4pm - Hike at Oxbow Park.  Meet at the first bridge (which is the 2nd parking lot as you enter the park).  We'll head out and figure out what to do with Adrian Peterson.
Monday 6pm - The Monday Maniacs are meeting at WildWood Sport Bar in Rochester... when that warm front comes we'll sit on the patio, but if not, Wildwood has always had great seating and service for RED!
Tuesday 6:30pm:  The Trail Crew is heading to Millville.. they have some great bars for post run hangout!  Meet at the baseball field as you enter Millville.    I'm willing to bet the water will be refreshingly cool!  (or the crew may stay out of it!)

Wednesday 5:45pm:  The Hill workout is on again! Gather at the Soldiers Field War Memorial parking lot.  A short warm up puts you at the base of a hill awaiting your pittar patter.
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D at the Bears Den in Byron.  Looks to be a wonderful evening of walking, running and funning!

Wow! The Success Keeps Building!

A very nice turnout at the Hill Workout on Wednesday.  It's turning out that Soldiers Field is a good place to meet new runners, we met another last night and hope to see her join us soon!

Below are a couple of pics courtesy of Gwen and Woo...

Some of us didn't run... well just me!
What is a hill workout?  Everyone is doing the same repeats on the same hill..  you may or may not be in the lead group, but you are still on the same hill!   Remember, with workouts like this

"It doesn't get easier, you simply get better!" - Byron CC 2013 (ha.. a little plug as I am fond of Byron CC)

Just work baby!
******************************

Tuesdays Trail run at Oxbow sounded successful as well!   Note there were a handful of hikers in that group, do not be afraid to join us, even if you're not running!  We are all in this together, get fit, be strong and have some great times!

***************************

Best Wishes to all those doing the Superior Endurance Runs this weekend!  There are a lot of R.E.D. members taking part, I'm sure you'll have great results, and super stories to share!  Go get it!

********************************

Group Run/Walk/Hike Opportunities!

  • Tonight we're back at the Bears Den Byron at 6pm!  The storms seem to be holding off, so good times for sure!  Join us for a run or walk, 3, 4 or 6 miles (or really, whatever you want!).
  • Saturdays Long run is at 7am at the RAC in Rochester.  The group is out for 17 miles of marathon prep!  If you'd like something shorter, the half marathon will be approx 8-9 miles of supported training, supported with water gatorade and volunteers! Thanks so much for volunteering R.E.D!
  • Sunday the Off Season striders will be out and about.. they always are.  I just don't know the details yet! - check back!
  • Sunday - Rochester Track Club hosts their annual picnic.  See details below.
    • Celebrate the season by joining other Rochester Track club members for the annual picnic this coming Sunday! Hot dogs, burgers, chips, pop, water and paper goods are all provided!   Please bring a side dish or sweet treat to share!

    • The picnic will be held at 5pm at Soldiers Field Park picnic shelter.
Please consider coming early  and getting trashed! RTC Volunteers will be meeting at 4:30pm  to do a quick (but always fun) trash pick-up on the bike trail adjacent to  Broadway and Hwy 14 (along the golf course).  We'll meet  in the small Soldiers Field Park parking lot  on Broadway, directly west of Snappy Stop.    Trash bags and latex gloves are provided.  Hope to see you there!
  • Last Sunday we did an evening hike... is there interest in a regularly scheduled hike?  I know in the past we hiked based on the Minnesota Vikings game time.   A noon game meant a 3:30pm or 4pm hike... while a late game meant a noon hike.  Please email me at byron.teamred@gmail.com if this is something that interests you.  We will continue it if we think we have people interested!
    • Note: emailing me is not a commitment to being there every Sunday, it simple gives us a feel for how many people might be engaged in such a thing.  Personally, I would love to see more walkers and hikers engaged in weekly activity with R.E.D!

The trail run has been determined!  (whew.. finally!)...

    • Where is the 1st Bridge?  It's the 2nd parking lot on your left as you enter the park. It's a picnic area as well.  Much larger lot compared to the initial parking lot you'll see.
  • Wednesday Hill work continues at 545pm from the Soldiers Field Memorial.. park in the small lot next to the memorial to meet the crew. This is one of the best workouts you'll get on a regular schedule... get on board!
  • Thursday Team R.E.D. is a Bears Den night starting at 6pm!  Plan on routes of 3, 4 or 6 miles.  Weather is never an issue in Byron!  70 and sunny all the time, come enjoy!

Sunday, August 31, 2014

Updates!

The Sunday Night Hike at Oxbow is on!  6pm at the 1st Bridge.. bring a parking lot beverage if you like.  What a beautiful day!

The Monday/Holiday edition of Off Season Striders is on!  Join OSS at 8am at Panera North (NORTH! by Target).   They meet at the other location a lot, so don't go there...

Monday Maniacs 6pm - still seeking someone who can commit to being there on the holiday edition of Monday Maniac.  Need a person who says "I will be there" so we have a a welcoming member, and they can let people know some run / walk options.  We have not declared a location as I will let whoever is in charge help us decide... something with a patio would be fun!   If you want to head up the Monday run.. please email me at byron.teamred@gmail.com   It's low pressure.. "Hi, are you here to run or walk?  ok.. we'll get started soon... Let's go!"

Waiting to hear on Tuesday's Trail run,... but certain there will be one!

Wednesday Hill work continues at 545pm from the Soldiers Field Memorial.. park in the small lot next to the memorial to meet the crew.

Thursday Team R.E.D. is a Bears Den night starting at 6pm!

We can be grateful if every day a little rain must shine...

"We can be grateful if every day a little rain must shine... "  That's an original line.. feel free to copyright it and sell shirts!

Thanks to Jean and George for hosting Team R.E.D. on Thursday!  I know it was a lightly attended event, the weather was certainly a factor.  None the less, thank you for being great hosts and inviting us to your home!

How do I know the weather might have been a factor in turnout?  Well, I was coaching a high school cross country meet in Stewartville.. see evidence below that weather might have been a factor!

****************************

Here's a look at the weekend...

Saturday 7am - the marathon and half marathon training runs continue from the RAC.  This weeks marathon route is 16.5 Miles.. I would anticipate the half marathoners to hit 8-9 miles.
Sunday 7:30am:  the Off Season Striders get their walk/run on from Charlies on 2nd in Rochester. This group typically goes 5-8 miles and settles in for a breakfast/coffee chat!
Sunday 6pm:  Wendy feels like a hike!  We're meeting at the 1st Bridge of Oxbow for a nice hike through the trails.  Check back in case we learn the rains were heavy enough to dampen the trail system to a mud bath, if that's the case, this hike could get postponed. Updates to follow.
Monday 8am: Off Season striders are happy to announce a holiday edition.  Meet at Panera North and enjoy!
Monday 6pm:  Not 100% sure yet if there is a Monday Maniac run in place.  Anyone who wants to coordinate it can feel free too email me at byron.teamred@gmail.com    What does it take to coordinate it?  Simply be sure to be there, welcome others, and eventually say "let's go!"

Here's what's up!

Wow... so much going on!  First off... congrats to Dani as she won he Healthy Human Race Half Marathon for the ladies!

Dani Wins!  Sporting a TerraLoco Run Minnesota Singlet!  Way to go Dani!
There are a bunch of results to peek at the following link including a whole lot of Team R.E.D. members, including Woo and Schettle finishing 2nd overall in the relay!   http://onlineraceresults.com/event/view_event.php?event_id=13996

I'll have to double check it, but it would appear Paul Chm set a World Record with his half marathon result. He was steady pace at a 30 second mile (that's pretty good for an old guy!)

***************************

This week....

Monday was a rooftop affair at the Tap House. (it didn't even rain!)

Delays Delays!

Hey all.. sorry for the delays.  I've been away on a training trip with the Byron Cross Country Team and we're crushing it!  Super great work ethic by this team, it's highly motivational for our coaching staff!   We'll try to get caught up on the schedule and keep things rolling with RED!

Last week, Team R.E.D. member Jen came by practice and talked to us about goal setting, about what drives us. The team paid attention as Jen ran the Revel Rockies in Colorado with Tom, Gwen, Lorelei, Andy and Paul... The Byron Bears were thrilled to see Jen holding some hardware, and it's a Bear!  Additionally Tom walked away with 1st place in his age group, while Gwen crushed her division!   All of those R.E.D. members were fantastic on a challenging course that started at 10,000 feet elevation!  Congrats! Way to represent!

Tuesday 6:30pm - Trail runners are heading to Carly State Park.   Meet at the entrance and enjoy the trails of this fantastic park! Hey Carly you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind!
Wednesday 5:45pm:  The Hill workout crew is at it again. Meet at Soldiers Field Memorial parking lot, and take a nice warmup to the base of the hill, and repeat!  Up and down to your hearts desire, as you know, hills are speed in disguise.
Thursday 6pm: Team R.E.D. heads to the Bears Den for a great night of walking or running! (don't forget the Eating and/or Drinking that accompanies it!

Volunteers Volunteers Volunteers!

Team R.E.D. has 9 volunteers for Water Stop #2 at the Healthy Human half marathon this Sunday, August 24th.  It's going to be a hopping stop as the event has grown so greatly!  We could use about 6 more volunteers!

Team R.E.D. is providing the beer and O.J..... come out and support the race!  If you can volunteer please email Katie at Katie.Massen@tenethealth.com

Remember, you can bring your kids if you like, and if you're cheering someone one, this water stop is a great one, as you'll see them early, and have time to catch the finish!

Great Times!

It was a super nice night to be at the Torgerson's home for Thursday Night's Team R.E.D.  It was everyone's birthday! Amazing! Thanks so much for hosting!

The way every birthday should be celebrated!

Several members are taking part in the Great River Ragnar!  Some are running, some are volunteering... I'm sure we'll hear many stories in the weeks to come!  Have tons of fun, and post pics!

Another five members have traveled to Colorado for the REVEL Rockies Marathon - It drops 4500 feet over the course of the marathon, starting at over 10,000 feet elevation!  This will undoubtedly bring another set of fun stories! You can track them at http://brooksee-events.appspot.com/rdv  if you like!

Run fast in Colorado!  Don't let those thin air people show you up!

********************************************

Our host is providing a main course (in a bun), cupcakes complete with candles and water.  Please bring something to share, your own beverage and a chair!

Here is a fine piece of art compiled on Youtube... celebrating the 60th Birthday of Robin Williams.

One hell of a talent to say the least.

Also, if you want a chance to join a Ragnar team, see an opportunity in the race section! It's not too late!
