Week to the Weekend to the Races!

Here we go.. all the stuff going on this week.. and weekend, that I'm aware of!

Tuesday 6pm:  Join Mason and crew at Chester Woods park for a fantastic night on the trails.  Looks like about a 5 mile jaunt. Meet at the horse trailer parking lot, and go check out the new spring foliage!
Wednesday 5:30pm:   Track Workout on the track in Byron.  Located behind the middle school, on 4th street.  Come on out and get some speed on!

  • Note:  Starting next week, May 2nd... Team R.E.D. and Tri-Rochester are combining our track workouts.  We'll alternate between Byron & Rochester (with the May 2nd being on the track in Byron). This will give us more opportunity to ensure runners from both clubs have runners in all ability/speed levels to connect with others for a great speed session.   Should be a great partnership!
Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. gathers at Bob's Smoke Stack Ribs.   They know we're coming, and happy to host us!   Again $6 pitchers of beer.. and the area up top will be reserved at 6pm, so if you want to leave anything at those tables, you are free to do so.
Saturday 7:15am:  The marathon training RAC run is set for 17 miles.... see the post below for a way to include a portion of this run, yet participate in a fundraiser in Byron!
Saturday 8:50am:   It's the 3rd Annual Beefcake, Cheesecake, Cupcake, for Pete's Sake, Pancake run for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. (JDRF).   See details below, as to how you can run 7 miles and participate or how you might run 14, 16 or even 20!

  • The 3rd Annual Beefcake, Cheesecake, Cupcake, for Pete's sake, Pancake run for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will depart from the RAC at 8:50 AM this Saturday morning April 28th and finish 7 miles later at the Bears Den in Byron within plenty of time to enjoy the JDRF breakfast. There will be a water stop 1/2 way in between and rides back to the RAC will be provided after the JDRF breakfast.
  • You can make this run 7 miles.. or more! For folks wanting more miles you can run with the RAC group at their normal 7:15 start time to their 1st designated waterstop at Silver Lake and either return directly for a 7 mile loop or lap Silver Lake along with the other RAC runners that day for a 9 mile loop. These RAC loops combined with the run to Byron would give you either a 14 mile or a 16 mile total run.
  • Additionally if you wanted to get a 20 mile run that morning, you can front load 4 miles prior to the RAC run by starting at 6:30 and then hooking up with the RAC runners at their normal start time.
  • What ever is your preference, just join the group at 8:50 for the 7 mile "flat" run to the Bears Den.
*********************************************

Here's a listing of some of the local races coming up!  More details to follow on these are they clip closer.

May 5th 8am:  Spring Classic 15K, 5K & Melby Kids Run!
May 12th 9am:  Hayfield Fire Dept Fun Run/Walk 8K, 5K & 1.2 Mile kids run!
May 18th 6:30pm:  Stay Out of the Sun Run 10K & 5K run/walk !
May 20th 1pm:  Roll & Stroll for JDRF.. a non-competitive 3 mile walk, run, bike, roller blade fundraiser!

Lots of Achievements! PR after PR!

I wasn't able to hit the Saturday morning RAC run, but that's ok, as it gave me a chance to join Lori in her quest for 22 miles... in celebration of 17 years of sobriety!  Great accomplishment that brings her to where she is today!

There was a great turnout for the run... Thanks to Lori for organizing, and Sarah & Jill for providing water/gatorade along the course!  -- This is most of the crew pre-run... Anita took the picture, and Mike S joined us in progress, but he got in the full 22 !

Congrats to the following for earning the  "Longest Run of Their Lives" award:

  • Sam - 15 miles
  • Sue - 20 miles
  • Adam W - 22 miles
  • Dave E - 22 miles
  • Lori - 22 miles
  • Jeremy - 22 miles  **Note:  Jeremy's previous longest run was 12 miles... back in college!
Here's a shot of much of the crew post run...

*********************************
From all the chatter regarding SEMYO, it sounds like many R.E.D. members had a good time!  -- some might have gone the wrong way, but hey.. what can you do!   Lori was one of the race directors for this event.. whew, she had a busy weekend!

***************************
Peter got out to the Trail Mix 50K.. Mo's sister Alyssa was asking if anyone was going to be there from R.E.D. but I didn't think so... I was incorrect!   Congrats Peter!   .. and why is Megan so overdressed?

*********************************
Tuesday 6pm:  Trail run is on!  Chester Woods is the location... Meet at the horse trailer parking lot, and go check out the new spring foliage!
Wednesday 5:30pm:   Track Workout on the track in Byron.  Located behind the middle school, on 4th street.  Come on out and get some speed on!
Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. gathers at Bob's Smoke Stack Ribs.   They were great to us the first visit, so we thought we'd give it another go!   More details to follow on this as well.

UPDATED: 24 Hours with Jim Parry!

Hey!  Don't forget.. Jim Parry starts his 24 hour run at 8:15am today!  You can join him anytime along the route in Stewartville.    Check out Sunday's posting for Jim's route...  he runs it counter clockwise, so you can drive or run the route clockwise and you'll get connected.

It was a solid night on the track Wednesday, lightly attended, but great efforts by all!  A new face was present, we hope to see Becky again one day!  You're always welcome at R.E.D.!

The track meet was cancelled so the 9pm ish version of RED is also off the hook.. everyone is on for 6pm!

  • Tonight 6pm:  Team R.E.D. is gathering at the DownUnder in Stewie and will connect with Jim along that same route... come on out and support his mission of showing young people the importance of exercise, and helping send the message that you can do anything you set your mind to!
  • Tonight 9pmish:  If Byron's track meet takes place (it's at risk due to anticipated showers).. but if it takes place, several red members are heading to the DownUnder after the meet, to also run with Jim and have a social!  If you want to double check that plan later, you can call my cell at 507 358 9188 for the latest scoop.
  • Saturday 7:15am:   Marathon training long run from the RAC.   I haven't seen the route posted yet, but I"m guessing it'll be in the range of 20 miles.   You can check for the route each week at http://runningrochester.blogspot.com/
  • Saturday 8am:   SEMYO 5K Run/Walk... come on out and enjoy a race!  Team R.E.D.'s Lori is the race director and you know that means, wild fun!   Race day registration is available between 7-7:45am.
  • Sunday 8am:  Come join Lori for part or all of her longest run of her life!  22 Miles (it's a celebration run!).   The run starts at Kodiak Apartments in Byron.. heads west through Kasson and on to Dodge Center, before returning to Byron.  Water / Gatorade available along the route.   ... and a post run celebration with cake and coffee to follow.
  • Sunday 8am:   If the run with Lori is a little much for you, Off Season Striders are gathering at Dunn Bros North in Rochester.  Join in for a nice run of 5-10 miles, then swing in for a coffee.

Track workout!

Tonight! What a great night to be on the track!  Come join us in Byron at 5:30pm... 800M repeats is the current plan of record (it's flexible however)...

Thursday at 6pm, we're planning to meet at the DownUnder located at 115 Main St. in Stewartville.   Adam will get the route talk kicked off and we'll run toward Jim Parry until we find him, then turn and run with Jim!  Of course a social will take place post run/walk!

Thursday at approx 9pm... another group of Team R.E.D. members who are planning to be at a track meet at 6pm, will then travel to stewie post meet!  -- if for any reason you couldn't make it at 6pm, come along at 9ish!   We'll also gather at the DownUnder, then head out on the route to find Jim.   If you're curious to know if we're on track for 9pm, call my cell at 507 358 9188 and I'll let you know!

I'll try to update this weekend's activity on Thursday.... have fun!

Week Ahead... it's a big one!

The participants and volunteers at Fetzer 20K & 2 Mile Run to End Hunger were fantastic!   Team R.E.D. represented very well!  Take a look at the slideshow below, before getting into the week ahead!

A special Thank You to ServiceMaster of Rochester and Team Refuel with Chocolate Milk!   Their contributions to our Youth Scholarship Fund helped us sponsor kids into the Run to End Hunger!

... and now for the week ahead!

  • Monday 9am:   The Boston Marathon starts rolling at 9am Central time!  I know R.E.D. members, Andy H, Corrine and Trevor are all in!  Looks like a warm one.. stay hydrated and enjoy the experience!   Several other Rochester area runners are treking in Boston as well.. you can search for people at  http://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/participant-information/entrants.aspx

  • Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs start moving from Ron's place 1625 S Broadway.    Usually 5-6 miles and a cold soda afterwards.  Don G. is running a 15 miler Monday, and will tie it to the Maniacs.  If you want more miles, drop Don a note, and he'll let you know where and when to meet him.   donaldgabrielson@gmail.com

  • Tuesday 6:30pm:   Quarry Hill Quickie.. it's a slightly later start, so if the start time ever held you back, consider joining this week!   - Below are details from Jim.

    • Meet at 6:30 in the west parking lot near tennis courts and baseball fields.  Turn east off 11th Ave onto 9th St and go as far east as you can.  You'll run right into the parking lot.

  • Wednesday 5:30pm:   Track night in Byron... meet at the track behind the middle school.   Turnouts have been getting stronger week after week, let's keep the momentum rolling

  • Thursday 8:15am:  Jim Parry starts his 24 hour endurance run!   He'll run a loop in Stewartville from 8:15am Thursday morning, running all day and through the night, until Friday morning!  If you'd like to join him, all you need to do is drive to Stewartville and connect.   He repeats the following loop, counter clockwise, so if you run clockwise, you'll catch him someplace along the way.

    • Thursday 6pm:   Team R.E.D. is gathering in Stewartville! Specific location still TBD.
      •  Let's run with Jim!  Adam W will get us started and we'll find Jim somewhere on the course.  Note:  Jim will be running very slowly, very slowly, so you might want to run with him... then loop around a block now and then, to get a little more tempo in the pace, and reconnect with him again.   Be creative!
    • Thursday 8:30-9pm timeframe:   Some of us will be at a track meet in Kasson at 6pm, so we plan to hit Stewartville when the meet is over (and we got into our running gear).  I would guess sometime after 8:30pm.    We'll also connect with Jim and then catch a social in Stewie.

    Weekend & More!

Good luck to all of you participating in the Fetzer 20K & 2 Mile Run to End Hunger this weekend!   The race starts at 9am.... and race day registration is available at Bamber Valley School (2001 Bamber Valley Road SW)....  Get signed up!

If you are not running, but want to volunteer, feel free to join the Team R.E.D. water stop located just south of the intersection of Bamber Valley Rd and Salem Rd... along the bike trail.   Here's the official description of where we are located.   It's just under 1/2 mile from the finish line.

      • Water Stop 1 (8:30am set up) South side of the foot bridge across the Zumbro, across from the electrical substation on Bamber Valley road, north side of the retention pond. Runners will run by twice at miles 2 and 6. They’ll go by again at about 12 miles, but probably won’t be needing any more water at that point.

    • Monday 9am:    The Boston Marathon kicks off Wave #1 at 9am central.. and the 2nd wave about 20 minutes later!   I'm sure I'm going to miss some members, but Andy H, Corrine & Trevor are all running.. along with several area runners with names you know!  You can visit http://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/participant-information/entrants.aspx to search for people running, I find the city and state are an easy way to narrow down who you're looking for.   Go Team R.E.D.!
    • Monday 6pm:  The Monday Maniacs is back in Rochester, meeting at Ron's place 1625 S Broadway ..  If you're interested in more then the 5-6 miles typically run on Monday's, let me know, and I'll get you connected with Don as he's going 15!
    • Tuesday 6:30pm:   Quarry Hill Quickie (I'm not really sure what that means!)... below is a note from Mason on where to meet..
      • Meet at 6:30 in west parking lot near tennis courts and baseball fields. I'm working at the Century Track meet. That's why the later time.   Turn east off 11th ave onto 9th St and go as far east as you can. You'll run right into the parking lot.

    Welcome Monica!

Team R.E.D. keeps on rolling.. what a great night at the Bears Den Thursday!  I'm excited to introduce you to Monica (many of you have met her, she just hadn't' made it to the Bears Den before last night, glad she made it!)... we love having her on board and finally adorned in a R.E.D. shirt. (photo courtesy of Renee S.)...

    Running Weather!

Wow.. hard to believe this is the end of March... and the running temps have been smiling!   I wasn't able to get to the track for a workout, but I did catch a few pictures.. there was some heart pumping running taking place, along with lots of smiles!....   See you at the Bears Den on Thursday !

    Tuesday, March 27, 2012

    What's Up?

Monday Maniacs had a good time running from and back to, Dooley's Monday night... they stayed dry despite the sense of a storm brewing.   It's safe to say they earned their post run reward with a challenging run in Rochester.  -- Thanks to Chris for the photo below...
    • Most Interesting Comment (MIC) of the night goes to our server, and I'll add, she did a very nice job given the crew she had to deal with.  The MIC came when Dave requested a Chocolate Milk & Mich Golden Light... our server asked, "did you want those mixed together?"

    A look ahead....
Tuesday 6pm:   "Do You Feel Lucky Punk" trail run from (Clint) Eastwood Park in Rochester.  Meet at the parking lot off Hwy 14 near the ball-field.
Wednesday 5:30pm:   Track work at the Byron Track.   Alternate some 400s and 800s to get your feet turning over like the speedster you are!
    • Rob M is talking to the Tri guys to see if they would like to alternate  Rochester and Byron locations each week for track workouts... this would give us the chance to join another group on the track, increasing the opportunity to have someone in your speed range, to workout with, and push each other
Thursday 6pm:  Team R.E.D. gathers at the Bears Den in Byron.  Routes in the range of 3, 4 & 6 miles will be posted Wednesday.
Saturday 7:15am:   Marathon training long run from the RAC.   More and more members have been  joining these volunteer staffed long runs.  It's a great way to log the miles in a group!
Sunday 8am:  Off Season Striders are gathering at Panera South! If you're not racing Sunday morning, get out there!  If you are racing, but want more miles. this is a great place to log them.
Sunday 1pm:  Fools Five Road race in Lewiston.   This is a great event, high energy, lots of people raising lots of money for Cancer Research.    If you're planning to go, Lori is looking for carpoolers... contact her at lbelaen@gmail.com

    Sunday, March 25, 2012

Lots of Success! & More Opportunity!

Team R.E.D. members were very active this weekend.... racing at the Return of the Robin & at the Race for Research!  Awesome to see you all out there.. competing against yourself, and others!

Other R.E.D. members were out at the RAC marathon training run, and yet others ventured to Winona to join Lonna & Dan for a trail run, and fun!

Add to all that, a fantastic night at Joe & Sara's for Game Night!   Thanks for hosting!

    ************************

Monday Maniacs are running at 6pm from Dooley's in Rochester this Monday 3/27... get on board with this Monday group (typically 5-6 miles with the route decision made at game time!).
Tuesday Trail run: Eastwood Park at 6pm... meet in the parking lot and enjoy the twists and turns of that space!  (there's a great 5K that takes place out there near Mothers Day)...   as is the norm.. plan to settle in for a soda or two post run!

Check back for details on the rest of the week

    ********************************
    Volunteers Needed!
The Fetzer 20K has transitioned to a fundraising event for the Channel One Food Bank.  At least two R.E.D. members have connections to the Food Bank, and they are helping to lead a Waterstop for the event!   If you've never assisted at a water stop, you simply don't know what you're missing!  So much fun!  Especially when it's a Team R.E.D. station!

Please contact Jennifer jennystamand@gmail.com  and Dan lovik@aol.com to volunteer at this race.. it's a great cause, and a race that's being taken over by an experienced director..     You can volunteer to be part of the Team R.E.D. waterstop or for any other role, i.e. course marshall, registration, course setup, food, clean up...  whatever you can imagine.  Don't have a sitter for the kids?  Bring them along!

    Thursday, March 22, 2012

    Tonight!

Tonight's Team R.E.D. is at Broadway Pizza in Rochester... if I was a betting man, I would bet this will be fun!   Chris is going to kick us off with a route talk (routes are posted on the right hand side of the blog).  Thanks for taking the lead Chris!

Broadway Pizza is located along the frontage road at 4144 Hwy 52 North....

    Super Trail Run!

Before we get to the trail run.... based on the chances of showers, and potential muckiness of the Soldiers Field Track, I'd suggest running a Track workout in Byron tonight -- certainly go where you want to go.. I'm just planning on Byron, in case of rain.

    ****************************

What a great turnout at Oxbow for a Trail Run organized by Jim! Thanks for bringing us together!

We saw a couple new faces... Lynn & Nate were with us. Always good to meet people who share the desire for fitness & fun!  If you don't consider yourself a trail runner, but want to come out on Trail night... come on out.. last night 3 people went for a  hike, rather then a run!

    Tuesday, March 20, 2012

    Monday & More!

Monday 6pm - The Maniacs are gathering at Margarito's in Byron.   Located at 403 Frontage RD (next to the Dairy Queen). -- The Monday Maniacs decide on the route upon arrival.. a fun group!
Tuesday 6pm - Mason leads the trail running crew with is signature run called Go with the Flow at Oxbow.  Gather at the 1st Bridge of Oxbow Park (2nd parking lot on your left)... prepare for 5 miles of trail and a few sodas afterword!
Wednesday 6pm - Stay tuned here.. we were considering Soldiers Field track for this week, but if the rain comes, I'd say stay on the Byron Track, as Soldiers Field will become mucky.

Tonights Trail Run & ahead to the weekend!

Just a reminder of tonight's trail run kicking off at 6pm from Dan's house at 1504 7th St NE, Rochester... from there, you'll head to Quarry Hill and enjoy the park!   Dan is also hosting a post run social... so come ready to relax afterwards (it's always good to have a dry shirt or jacket to change into post run, otherwise, the social part is not as fun, as you get cold!)

There's a local race on St Patricks Day!   Go check out http://rochestertrackclub.com/main.asp?SectionID=3&SubSectionID=28&ArticleID=8  for details on the Lucky Green 5K!

There's a Get Lucky deal going on in the cities on St Patricks day as well.. along with a bus full of fun not competing in the race.  If you're heading to Get Lucky, you'll want to connect with this bus during the afternoon, after the race.  Sure to be a Blast!

The Human Race is on for Sunday afternoon... we have at least 6 members participating in the USATF club circuit.. and others may attend as well.   Registration is still open!  Visit http://www.imathlete.com/events/StPatricksDayHumanRace to register.   Also, if you want in the carpool.. send a note to Lori and Tom (as we have 1 or 2 vehicles going).    lbelaen@gmail.com  and twoo262@gmail.com

    Another loaded week... starts now!

Today 5am-9pm:  Jim Parry is going places today!  Well, not really, he'll be running in one place... logging 16 hours on a treadmill to raise funds for the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign!  Way to go Jim!

I logged 30 minutes with Jim and Bill at 5am and then my treadmill was taken from me by Kevin.... wow.. 16 hours is a long time, he'll wrap it up at 9pm tonight!    -- there are still a few open slots, you can sign up by calling the Y at 287 2260 (or just stop by and say hi, while making a contribution!)

    Kevin, Jim & Bill - 5:30am

    •  Saturday 7:15am - Marathon Training run from the RAC.   The scheduled distance is 15.75 miles...  if you wanted something shorter, you could join us, and run to the first waterstop at approx 3.5 miles, and turn around to get 7 miles in.   Additionally, if you want to go longer, some runners are gathering at 6:30am to front load a few, and will plan to hit a total of 20 miles.
    • Sunday 8am -  Off Season Striders are running from Brothers Bar & Grill.   Park in the back for the route talk (week after week I've been saying the route is typically 8-10 miles, but in reality it's been more like 5-6 miles... so there's some flexibility to do what you want to do.. then settle in for a little breakfast and/or coffee post run!)
    • Sunday 1pm -   Hike at Oxbow!  The weather says, let's get in the woods! Meet at the 1st bridge (2nd parking lot on your left as you enter the park (just north of Byron)
    • Monday 6pm - Monday Maniacs are running from Dooley's located at 255 1st Ave SW in Rochester.   5-6 miles is about the range they've been hitting (seems they make up the routes upon arrival!)
    • Tuesday 5pm - The Rochester Track Club is holding a trash pickup along the trail on the south side of Soldiers Field Golf Course.  If you've run along there recently, you already know, that section is covered with trash!  If you're available and interested in helping, please park at the Hy Vee parking lot and cross to the trail at the traffic light.  (Jean Murray is heading up the effort.. Thanks Jean!)
    • Tuesday 6pm - Trail Run at Quarry Hill Park in Rochester.  This is a great place to log some miles.. and the group is invited over to Dan's house afterwords for some liquid refrehsments.
    • Wednesday 5:30pm - Outdoor track in Byron (located behind the middle school 601 4th St NW)... time to burn it up!
    • Thursday 6pm - Team R.E.D. is a the Bears Den in Byron for lots of runnin' and funnin' once again!  I can even make it this week! woo hoo!

    Thursday Nights Plan!

Mason led a very successful Trail Run Tuesday night at Essex park.... I swung by the parking lot after the run (hard to believe they were sipping sodas in the parking lot when I arrived!).    Sounds like next week they're planning to hit Quarry Hill trails.

While some members are hitting the track right now... others are looking ahead to Thursday!  Routes are up on the right hand side of the blog.... click below the map to see the full version.

Team R.E.D. is meeting at 6pm Thursday at Brothers Bar & Grill (812 South Broadway in Rochester).    Please park in back... to gather for the route talk (I'm sure it will be weather dependent whether that chat takes place outside or in.). Randy is the man with the plan.. he'll get you going!

--- Also.. keep in mind, Jim Parry's 16 hour treadmill run is this Friday from 5am to 9am for the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.. you can sign up to run with him as he has two extra treadmills lined up all day long right there in plain view of people coming and going... check out her blog below.

Loaded Week! - Pictures from Thursday as well!

    • Monday Maniacs 6pm: Gathering at the Bears Den in Byron for a 5-6 miler.  Always fun to wrap it up with a little "us" time!
    • Tuesday Trail Run 6pm:  With the weather approaching 50 degrees, Mason is set to kick off the trail run season!  Meeting at 6pm at Essex park in Rochester.  There's a possibility of refreshments following this one too!
    • Wednesday Night Track 5:30pm:   We shifted track night to Wednesday to avoid conflict with the trail run.  You can do both!  Speed intervals or tempo on the indoor track at RCTC... that's one way to pick up some foot turnover!
    • Thursday Team R.E.D. 6pm:  We're back in Rochester, with the location still TBD.   Keep an eye on the blog for the big decision!    The Location is picked!  We'll be at Brothers Bar & Grill... easy access to the trails and off we go!
    • Friday Jim Parry's Treadmill Run 5am-9pm:   Jim is running for the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign, and you can join him for 30 minutes or so.. as he'll have two treadmills set up beside him.  Additional, you are invited to make a contribution to the campaign, whether you run or not!

Below are a few pics from Thursday Night at the Bears Den... fun times, as usual!

Congrats to Jeremy & Randy for winning Bears Den gift cards courtesy of ServiceMaster!

    Weekend!

A couple of things for this weekend!

Saturday 7:15am:   Full & Half Marathon training runs from the RAC.   This is a supported run, with volunteers providing water, Gatorade (and sometimes banana's or candies).   The full marathon route looks like it goes 12 miles (but can add loops to make it 14 or 16 miles as well).
Sunday 8:00am:  The Off Season Striders are gathering at Panera South.  The route is typically a group discussion just before we take off (usually around 8-10 miles)... always options to go longer or shorter.

    ********************************
See some details from Jim Parry regarding his his next adventure for a great cause.  The Strong Kids Campaign Run.   Jim will again be running on a treadmill in the lobby of the Rochester Area Family Y for 16 hours.  This run will be taking place next Friday, March 9th, from 5am - 9pm.  2 other treadmills will again be set up for others to join me.  All the info about this run can be found at http://mrparrysendurancechallenge.blogspot.com

    *******************************

I forgot to give away the giveaways at the Bears Den last night.  We have some Chocolate Milk related shirts, hats, sling bags and a few other things... we'll find another time to get those out and about.

    Wednesday, February 29, 2012

    Routes are up!

Thursday night we'll be at the Bears Den!  The long route of 6 miles, is shown as an out and back... if the gravel road at 20th street is dry, we might change that to a big loop.. either way, it's a hilly route!

REMINDER:  (Thanks Joe for mentioning this).   If you want to register for USA Track & Field as a member of Team R.E.D.  be sure to check the boxes closely, as there is another club called Minnesota RED and that's not us!   Here's a link to the USATF membership page.  http://www.usatfmn.org/membership   Team R.E.D. club # is 0435

    • Membership in USATF is not a requirement tied to being a member of Team R.E.D., but it is a requirement if you want to Race on the club circuit (and gain guaranteed entry into the TC 10 Mile, which is otherwise Lottery only)
    • If this is the first time you've heard of USATF and wonder "what is he talking about?"  Feel free to ask questions!
    • The Human Race 8K on March 18th is part of the USATF Minnesota club race circuit.

    Last minute

We have a special presentation taking place tonight.. if you can make it (even post run).  Please stop by the Bears Den.

Also, note the poll on the right hand side. Traditionally, Off Season Striders stop the weekend runs, when the Marathon Training runs from the RAC start.   They are considering a Sunday option (it could serve as a recovery run, or, if you were unable to attend on Saturday, another opportunity to log some miles in a group).  Please vote!

    Routes & Trail Fundraiser!

The routes are posted on the right side of the blog... they came out a little funky this time (not sure what is making the blog act a little differently lately, but if you click on view details .. you'll see the route.

    ***********************

I'd like to thank Renee for sharing the information below relating to the Rochester Active Sports Club and their mission to raise funds for a couple of local trail systems...   There are fliers, that I'll send out to the Team R.E.D. distribution... but if you're not on that distribution, and would like to get a flier, please drop me an email request at byron.teamred@gmail.com    If you're looking for a place to dine out this weekend, Victorias seems like a great place to consider!

RASC Trail Fundraiser – Sunday Feb 19th
As we continue our goal of a large fundraiser every other year...here is our way of filling in the cracks...
We are currently working toward raising $10,000 for a matching grant that we have received from the DNR for the purpose of maintaining and replacing grooming and mowing equipment for the Essex Park and Quarry Hill trail systems. For those of you who are not aware, the club grooms and clears the trails throughout the year, not only for the use of our ski team members, but for the community at large.  We hope that you are proud to be a part of an organization whose focus not only benefits its own members, but also benefits the general population of the greaterRochester area as well!
To this end, here is our request:
    1.  Print the flyer
    2.  Bring the flyer with you to Victoria's Restaurant on Sunday, February 19 between 4:00-9:00 pm.  Victoria's will donate 25% of your meal back to the club. You can Dine In or Carry Out. This is about as painless a way as we could think of to help you support all the work that goes into maintaining the trail systems at Quarry Hill and Essex Park..
    3.  Tell all of your friends about this opportunity!
    4.  Donations for grooming and mowing equipment are always welcome!  www.rasc-mn.org  Click the RASC Donors button at the left to see how you can donate!

    RASC Socks and Buffs
RASC has a number of socks and neck warmers still available that need to go to a good home.  Several people have expressed an interest in purchasing more socks than they originally ordered and will be the first to pick through the options but be sure to get in line for the remaining few pairs. If you have interest in stocking up on these great socks contact Henry Walker (wlmailhtml:walker.henry@mayo.edu).  Likewise we have a number of great buffs (neck warmers) that need to go.  They are bright and very effective at warding off the cold (cold weather will return again – right?).  Socks are $7.25/pr and neck warmers are $10 each.
For RNST skiers, we will bring socks and neck warmers to the RNST practices over the next few days to make it easy to pick up items your interested in.  If you have pre-ordered socks and haven’t picked them up please do so early next week.

Minnesota Power Pull – March 4th
The Minnesota Power Pull will be held on March 4th at the Mayo Civic center. It is a standard race on the Concept 2 rowing machine of 2,000 meters. They will have categories for juniors, lightweights, collegiate, open and masters. One entry fee allows you as many races as your body can handle. At the end of the day, they’ll have races for parents, relay-races of teams of 4, and anything else that they can come up with. People can email John Bartucz [john@bartucz.com] for more information, or sign up directly at RegattaCentral: https://www.regattacentral.com/regatta/index.jsp?job_id=2174

    Frozen Goose!

Today's Frozen Goose run to raise funds for Childhood Cancer research was a hit!  It's organized by the Optimist club.   They had their largest ever amount of runners (I'm guessing weather came into play!)... and they raised over $8,000 !  So awesome!

Lots of R.E.D. members were present from both an active running level to a volunteer level... the race doesn't take place without both of those categories being filled..  it truly demonstrates the impact we all have on area events!  Nice Work Team R.E.D.!
